Apple Working on Video Ringtones for iPhone

Apple recently filed a patent which describes methods for creating video ringtones for iPhone.
Specifically, the technology will allow users to automatically combine sound and video from various sources, including iTunes and iMovie, to create custom audio-visual alerts for incoming phone calls.

In a simple example, visuals displayed on the device would react to associated audio much like a visualizer in iTunes. In another example, a layered composite could be assembled from multiple video or photographic sources. These layers could be independently animated based on different characteristics in the audio track, such as its mix of high and low frequencies.

The visuals would not be limited to 2D content. Apple's system could offer visual effects in 3D space, including movement, appearance, shape and differing camera angles.

The patent also describes a means for callers to send the "seed" information about a particular song or video. These caller "signatures" could further alter the visual experience for the recipient or offer dynamic links to relevant content for the receiver to check out later. Aside from offering a unique new method for verifying the identity of incoming callers, Patently Apple suggests this technology could bring social networking concepts to ringtones by allowing users to share their latest favorite songs and videos with the people they are calling.
Actually, this still on a theoretical phase, it still not confirmed if Apple will proceed this cool patent to work on iPhones or not

Verizon iPhone 4 Unlocked To Work On Cricket Pay-As-You-Go CDMA Network[Video]

According to Engaget, the CDMA-based Verizon iPhone 4 has been successfully unlocked to work on pay-as-you-go Cricket Wireless network in the United States.

Ready to jump ship from "America's largest?" Of course, you'll have to jailbreak, install some third party MMS software, and trust some random dude at the Cricket store with your precious smartphone. We're not saying it's wise, but it is possible, as the video below attests.

As most of you know, that a Chinese carrier named China Telecom has successfully unlocked Verizon iPhone 4 on its CDMA network.

Warning! Jailbreakers Should Hold off on March 11 iOS 4.3 Update

BigBoss posted on his blog yesterday that if you enjoy using jailbroken tweaks such as winterboard and sbsettings, hold off on the big March 11th update.
It’s always a cardinal rule to wait for the new jailbreak before updating to Apple’s new firmware, this time he says, use extra precaution.
Apple will be using ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) in its new iOS , which BigBoss says will damage the way mobile substrate works. It looks like the 4.3 jailbreak is going to need a patched mobile substrate file. Mobile substrate is just a few dynamic libraries of code in your iPhone’s OS (like windows .dll files)…
It has multiple purposes, but what it’s generally used for is a fail safe. It’s what tells your “SpringBoard.app” to run in the event an application crashes. Otherwise you’d have to force reboot your iPhone. Applications crashing, with no code to call it back to the home screen, is why you see so many of your Android friends pulling their batteries out :)
So we thank BigBoss for the heads up, and urge you as well to avoid downloading Apple’s new 4.3 update this Friday. With previous beta versions of iOS 4.3 jailbroken, I don’t think it’ll be long after the big day before we see an official jailbreak with the mobile substrate fix.
As always, we will let you know as soon as that’s available. Has anyone updated to 4.3 GM and noticed issues with any of their jailbreak apps? Are you on 4.2.1 right now and plan on downloading the new update regardless? Tell us below!

iPhone 5 to Have Aluminum Back and New Antenna Design?

Apple originally used a plastic back for the iPhone, then they switched to a glass backing for the iPhone 4.
The glass back coupled with the antenna issues in the iPhone 4 did not bear well for the device, and it appears that Apple is considering using an aluminum back for the iPhone 5.
A report from the Taiwanese Economic Daily News claims that Apple is abandoning the glass backing from the iPhone 5 in favor of a stronger aluminum covering. The source also suggests that Apple’s new antenna will be inside the device’s rear Apple logo…
From the Taiwanese report’s English translation (via GadgetsDNA),
“Decision to design similar to iPod touch instead of using glass is supposed that Apple seems to stop problems which are told widely damages from scratching, difficulties of painting white and weight of glass.”
Antenna will be designed just behind Apple Logo so that cellular and Wi-Fi signal can penetrate easily. Side exposed steel antennas seem to be abandoned, as designed in iPhone 4.”
This report is based off information received from a Chinese manufacturing source. The Economic Daily News hasn’t been 100% reliable in the past, but this new report seems to hold weight in the whirlpool of existing Apple rumors.
The main reason for this design change seems to be a problem with painting the back of the iPhone 4. (Probably the reason we haven’t seen a white one yet.) The glass also adds a significant amount of weight. There has also been an issue with the iPhone 4′s glass back cracking as well (dubbed “Glassgate“).
Aluminum would offer not only a lighter design, but also extra durability.
An aluminum backing on the iPhone 5 would also help unify Apple’s products, since the current iPod Touch, iPad and MacBooks (excluding the base model) all boast aluminum exteriors.
As far as the antenna redesign is concerned, it makes sense that Apple would want to abandon the radical exterior antenna design of the iPhone 4 that has caused them so much trouble. However, a 3G and WiFi antenna behind the device’s Apple logo seems a little off.
What about thick cases? Also, when you hold the phone, your hand would most likely be covering the antenna. Unless Apple has another surprise, this design choice doesn’t seem optimal. (It is worth noting that the iPad’s WiFi antenna exists behind the Apple logo, so this isn’t a totally new concept for Apple to implement.)
The iPhone 5 will most likely be introduced at WWDC this summer. Check out our iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup for more speculation on the device.
Would you like Apple to go with an aluminum back for the iPhone 5? What about the concept of the antenna being behind the Apple logo?

TinyUmbrella with 4.3GM support released

This update provides iOS 4.3 GM support as well as uses your system proxy settings when launching the TinyUmbrella loader. I've also made a few tweaks to streamline the currently saved shshs. I'm still working on the windows recovery kick out fix for 4.2.1 - I should have that finished this week (hopefully). Enjoy
