TinyUmbrella BETA for OSX with recovery fix is out!

TinyUmbrella 4.21.12 is out with beta support of the nasty 4.2.1 recovery loop fix. I've finished the OSX version and am currently working on the windows version. As soon as the windows version is fixed, I'll update the links.

*IMPORTANT*
In order for the 'Fix Recovery' button to be enabled you must put your device in DFU. Once the 'Fix Recovery' button is enabled, click the button then click 'Yes' on the confirmation and wait. Your device should reboot out of the recovery loop!

Manage Your Medication with ‘Pillboxie’ for iPhone

If you take a lot of meds, you know how much of a pain it can be to manage all of your prescriptions.
Unless you’ve got a steel trap for a memory, it can be difficult to remember when to take all of the different pills in your medical arsenal.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was an easy to use, pretty app for managing your meds on the iPhone? The developer and designer of Pillboxie (who is also a registered nurse) thought so too. If you’re a pill popper, this one’s for you…
Pillboxie’s official description,
“Pillboxie is the easy way to remember your meds. Other med reminder apps are either too complicated or just downright boring. Pillboxie is easy because it lets you *visually* manage your meds. Scheduling a reminder is as easy as dropping a pill into a pillbox.”

Pillboxie is one of those rare apps that looks as good as it performs. It’s like the ideal girlfriend: pretty, easy to figure out, functional and hassle free.
The goal of Pillboxie is to help you remember when to take your meds. There aren’t a lot of settings to configure; you simply create a new med and drop it into the appropriate pillbox. Each pillbox represents an hour in the day.
Pillboxie will send you a local notification when it’s time to take your medication. This is great because you don’t need to be on a network to get your reminders, so Pillboxie works on the iPod Touch as well.
After you create a new pill, you select it from your virtual pill cabinet and schedule it for the appropriate time of day. Dragging pills into the pillbox is actually an enjoyable process. The act of flipping a pillbox lid open, dragging a pill in, then flipping the lid down again feels very intuitive.

Adding a new med to your pill catalog is very straightforward. Simply add the name and choose from a combination of 40 different pill shapes and colors. Once added, a pill is ready to be scheduled from the Medications carousel.
The “Due Today” window of Pillboxie shows you what meds you have scheduled for the day. Tap the “Days” button when viewing the pillboxes to schedule meds for only the weekends, etc.
When you set a time to take a pill, Pillboxie will default to reminding you every day at that certain time. In most cases that’s not a problem, since most prescriptions require you to take daily doses anyway.
Pillboxie will allow you to customize the sound of its push notifications, but besides that, there are no extra settings.
If you are a looking for a way to visually manage your meds on the iPhone, Pillboxie is where it’s at. The app is available for $0.99 in the App Store.

Apple’s Three Laws for Developers

If you’ve ever seen the movie iRobot, you are familiar with “The Three Laws” from the film.

Isaiah Carew, an Apple developer, decided to be clever and come up with three laws that Apple would (and probably will now) enforce on its developers. They’re funny to read, because they are also true…
Apple’s Three Laws of Developers
  1. A developer may not injure Apple or, through inaction, allow Apple to come to harm.
  2. A developer must obey any orders given to it by Apple, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A developer must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
— I. Developer
Pretty good, huh?

Apple Working on “Safe Deposit Box” for Cloud-Based Encrypted Data Storage

Apple has recently patented a virtual “locker” for encrypted data storage in Mac OS X.
Speculation is that this new feature will work with Apple’s revamp of MobileMe and heavily integrate with iOS.
This virtual vault will further Apple’s focus on cloud-based technologies and probably work like Dropbox. Files dropped into said folder on OS X will sync with Apple’s cloud-based storage service (probably replacing iDisk) and encrypt data as it is uploaded to the cloud.
Patently Apple broke the news,
“Without a doubt, Apple will either include it in Time Machine with OS X Lion or consider it as a separate pro-like app the way that Apple has iPhoto and Aperture for more value. Personally, I think it should be one of the perks for adopting OS X Lion.
It’s a value proposition and one that will ease everyone, young and old, into trusting “cloud” based services. Then again, Apple may decide to slide this feature into MobileMe so as to push more business its way and expand their cloud services. Time will tell.”
There is no way to know how Apple will implement its revamp of MobileMe into its platforms for sure, but iOS is sure to be apart of the equation.
9to5 Mac theorizes that iOS will be a big part of the “Safe Deposit Box,”
“We speculate that this upcoming feature will tie right in with iOS and whichever files you put in your “Safe Deposit Box” will show up in a new app made by Apple for MobileMe members and if the user uploads any media (music, videos, and pictures) it will automatically show up their respective iOS applications. This service will surely replace Apple’s long-existing iDisk feature as they are essentially the same thing, but “Safe Deposit Box” seems more intuitive and more secure.”
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Apple’s MobileMe developments. Apple seems to be taking its cloud services much more seriously as of late, and we’ll probably see cloud streaming/storage as a huge focus in the next Apple event.
How do you think Apple will enhance MobileMe and iDisk? I’d like to see Apple just buy Dropbox.

Geohot Says Sony Xperia Play [Play Station Phone] Is Next In Line To Jailbreak

Yeah! You read that right. Geohot has no intensions in stoping.
Despite of this whole mess with Sony’s lawsuit, Geohot is very clear and siad that he will be the first one to buy the yet to release Sony Xperia Play [aka Playstation Phone] and give the user the power to make full use of the phone – In other words, he will be jailbreaking/hacking Sony’s Xperia Play.
Why should I trust you? I just saw you trying to rap battle Sony
My attempts at humor aside, I do take this whole matter very seriously. Again, it’s not about me, I was on the verge of quitting this stuff last June, and I would hate to be the one who sets a reputation for hackers that all a company has to do is sue us and we back down. In fact, I want the opposite reputation set, that the more a company tries to abuse the legal system, the harder we rally back. I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project.
