Jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM on iPhone 4, iPod touch and iPad with Redsn0w

Few moments ago, Apple pushed iOS 4.2 Gold Master into Developers Center. The newly released Redsn0w 0.9.6 has been confirmed to jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G and iPad. So, if you have got your copy of iOS 4.2 GM, you will be able to jailbreak it using the instructions posted below.

Today Apple released to developers the GM seed for 4.2. Tinkerers will find that yesterday’s redsn0w jailbreaks today’s 4.2 GM seed, simply by pointing redsn0w at the 4.1 IPSW (rather than the 4.2 one). Right now it mostly only makes sense for JB app developers to do that because many apps (including Cydia itself) need to be updated for 4.2. However, if all you want to do is enable afc2 (to use iFunBox or other file browsers), or to tweak settings like Battery % and Homescreen wallpapers, then go for it (if you have valid paid access to the GM seed). Be sure to uncheck the Cydia box, though! Ultrasn0w unlockers should stay very far away from this!!

STEP 1: Download iOS 4.1 (required for jailbreak) and iOS 4.2 then connect your iOS device into your computer via USB and make sure that iTunes is not running.

STEP 2: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 and click Browse then point it to iOS 4.1 original firmware file NOT iOS 4.2.

STEP 3: Now select “Install Cydia” and hit the Next button to continue the process.

STEP 4: A prompt will appear to put the device in DFU mode. For this just follow the instructions appearing on the screen or hold Home + Power buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds and then release the power button while continuing to press home.

STEP 5: Congrats, now you can enjoy your jailbroken device.

Forgot to talk about the unlock, currently, there's no unlock for the new basebands of iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 but it's expected to be released just after the public release of iOS 4.2 in few days. We'll keep you updated whenever iOS 4.2 is available followed by Ultrasn0w unlock.

PwnageTool for Windows

Another good news in the jailbreak community! PwnageTool for Windows, (yes for Windows) coming soon. This is really wonderful news for unlockers who use Windows so they can cook their own custom firmwares with PwnageTool and restore using this cooked firmwares without updating the baseband and keep Ultrasn0w carrier unlock.

That will totally kills the developer behind Sn0wbreeze and it's tool too as it will unusable. MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that iPhone developer chpwn will release a new version of PwnageTool to support WIndows.
MuscleNerd: @iH8sn0w seriously...@chpwn is your age, and about to release a better version of PT for win. Don't *blame* him for that.

BaDRaN: @MuscleNerd please we want pwnagetool for windows. Why you don't make it ??

MuscleNerd@BaDRaN9 I think @chpwn is mostly there :) True windows version of PwnageTool by someone in the know.
We'll of course tell you whenever the new version of PwnageTool is available and we'll post full how to guides for that big one, stay tuned!

iPhone Alarm Bug DST Causing Problems Across Europe

Lots of bugs spreading this days! This one is about alarm, the alarm of your iPhone has caused some major problems across Europe countries. Most of the iPhone users are running 1 hour late to their offices due to this Bug. The bug basically is when daylight saving was started i.e when they have changed the time to 1 hour early, the iPhone's clock automatically adjust it to the time but unfortunately the Alarm Clock stayed at the same time. The result? Lots of people getting up an hour late.

This bug first targeted Australia then Europe and now New Zealand. People living in those places has suffered from this Bug. Apple fans in U.S wants apple to fix this bug before it hits U.S on 7th November. Well, this bug can also manually be fixed but for Apple it will be hard challenge to fix this bug. By the way, Apple has also another bug to fix right now which enables access to your contacts and make calls and bypass lock code. The solution that might work with you is to delete all the Alarms and start over again I think that might help. Let's see if Apple fixes it when North America makes the switch on November 7th.

iPhone 5 to Enable Ambitious Remote Computing Program?

Planning to buy an iPhone 5? Here's some good news for you. iPhone 5 will bring a very interesting feature, remote computing, based on NFC (Near Field Communication) technology according to a report from CultOfMac. If the iPhone 5 will be really NFC-enable phone, it means that we can carry multiple desktop settings about our Macs around with us, on our phones, and upload them to a destination Mac of our choice.

If users wave a NFC-equipped iPhone at a NFC Mac (they need to be in close proximity to interact), the Mac will load all their applications, settings and data. It will be as though they are sitting at their own machine at home or work. When the user leaves, and the NFC-equipped iPhone is out of range, the host machine returns to its previous state.

“The Mac authenticates with the iPhone, which contains a lot of the information the computer needs, such as bookmarks, passwords and other data,” said our source, who asked to remain anonymous. “The system would essentially turn any Apple computer into your own — like you’re actually working on your own computer. Same settings, look, bookmarks, preferences. It would all be invisible. Your iPhone would be all you needed to unlock your Mac.”
The report also indicates that small items of information would be stored directly on your iPhone as password, documents, and settings files. But the larger items would be stored in the cloud to be included in the service, given the sizes of those items and the relatively slow transfer speeds used in NFC. This is only rumor and we may never see this but it would be very interesting if Apple really did that. Stay tuned as we'll keep you updated about the topic.

Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 Brings Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 on All Devices !!

Couple of days back, iPhone Dev Team released PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X based on Limera1n's exploit to jailbreak all iOS 4.1 devices. Now, they have merged Limera1n's exploit into Redsn0w too to be able to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPad and iPod touch. Moreover, this version brings custom boot logos and the ability for Windows users to restore using custom firmwares created by PwnageTool.

- custom bootlogos for iPhone3G/iPhone3GS/iPod2G users (with qualifying bootroms)
- an option that implements the “DFU” button in PwnageTool. This button (which you can use from Windows) lets you prepare your device for a custom DFU. Even if you’re purely a Windows user, you can get a trusted friend to run PwnageTool over your IPSW to create a custom IPSW. You can now install that custom IPSW on your own Windows box, after you run this redsn0w version.
This tool supports both Mac OS X and Windows. The instructions to jailbreak your device are the same to the previous ones, so you can follow the steps posted here to jailbreak your device using Redsn0w but don't forget to download Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 below.

Remove Cydia Ads to Speed Up Cydia !!

I think most of you are often suffering from Cydia ads, specially when the ads make it difficult to use the app without accidentally tapping on the ads. It makes sense to find ads on the free apps, but at  the same time and at the least I want to be able to do things such as read the app descriptions, see details and etc. Therefor I will show you - after the jump - a very simple way to get rid of Cydia ads.

STEP 1: FTP/SSH to your device.

STEP 2: Find this file /Applications/Cydia.app/package.js

STEP 3: Search for this, you may find it in line 209:

if (depiction == null)
Change it to:
if (depiction == null || true)
STEP 4: Now enjoy an ad free Cydia.

Here is the screen-shots before and after:
Of course if you want to see the ads again you simply have to reverse step 3.
