Apple Sues Motorola Over Multitouch on its Android Smartphones

Remember when Motoral sued Apple earlier this month? Apple did the same, they area hitting each other now! Apple has recently filed two lawsuits against Motorola over six patents filed by Apple relating to Multi-Touch on nearly all its Android phones -- basically everything up to and including the Droid X.

Patently Apple has expertly summed it all up in the followed text:

One: Apple, Inc patent titled: Ellipse Fitting for Multi-Touch Surfaces: Patent Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for simultaneously tracking multiple finger and palm contacts as hands approach, touch, and slide across a proximity-sensing, multi-touch surface. Identification and classification of intuitive hand configurations and motions enables unprecedented integration of typing, resting, pointing, scrolling, 3D manipulation, and handwriting into a versatile, ergonomic computer input device.

Two: Apple, Inc patent titled: Multipoint Touchscreen: Patent Abstract: A touch panel having a transparent capacitive sensing medium configured to detect multiple touches or near touches that occur at the same time and at distinct locations in the plane of the touch panel and to produce distinct signals representative of the location of the touches on the plane of the touch panel for each of the multiple touches is disclosed.

Three: Taligent, Inc patent titled: Object-Oriented System Locator System: Patent Abstract: A method and system for adding system components (documents, tools, fonts, libraries, etc.) to a computer system without running an installation program. A location framework is employed to locate system components whose properties match those specified in search criteria. The framework receives notification from the system when system components whose properties match the search criteria are added to or removed from the system.

Four: Apple, Inc, patent titled: Touch Screen Device, Method, and Graphical User Interface for Determining Commands by Applying Heuristics: Apple’s invention generally relates to electronic devices with touch screen displays, and more particularly, to electronic devices that apply heuristics to detected user gestures on a touch screen display to determine commands.

Five: Apple Computer, Inc. patent titled: Method and Apparatus for Displaying and Accessing Control and Status Information in a Computer System: Apple’s invention generally relates to the field of computer systems; particularly, the present invention relates to displaying a status and control function bar or window to enable access of user selected indicia to a computer system user.

Six: Apple Computer, Inc. patent titled: Support for Custom User-Interaction Elements in a Graphical, Event-Driven Computer System: Apple’s invention relates to graphical, event-driven computer systems, more particularly to custom interactive user-interaction elements in a computer system having a window-based graphical user interface.

Apple Looking into Nitride Coating for Scratch Proof iPhones and Other Devices

According to Appleinsider, this week the U.S. Patent Office published information on an application submitted by Apple entitled “Nitriding Stainless Steel for Consumer Electronic Products.” It’s a cost effective process for placing a nitride coating on top of stainless steel to create more scratch resistant products for consumers.

According to Apple’s application, “In addition to providing a durable, hard surface that is both scratch and impact resistant, the nitride layer allows for the natural surface color and texture of the underlying stainless steel to remain visible to the user”. The application reads: “It is this natural surface color and texture of the stainless steel that adds to the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the consumer electronic product, thereby enhancing the user’s overall experience.”

This new process would allow the color and texture of the stainless steel to show through, while allowing a housing for consumer electronics that is extremely resistant to scratches and blemishes, meaning products made with this new coating would maintain their beauty and luster for a considerably longer period of time.
The application notes that austenitic stainless steel, while scratch-prone, is a desirable material for consumer electronics because it is non-magnetic and less likely to inhibit wireless technology like a cell phone signal, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. Apple wishes to maintain the look and feel of stainless steel, but to also provide more protection for the external material.
Apple’s application describes several techniques for applying the nitride coating to stainless steel where the nitride would only be 15 microns thick and carry a Vicker’s hardness value of 1,000. This application from Apple made public this week was actually credited to Douglas Weber and was originally filed on April 6, 2010.
Apple has on numerous occasions shown interest in making its devices more durable and protected from daily wear-and-tear. This August, the company entered into an exclusive agreement with Liquidmetal Technologies, creator of an amorphous metal alloy with unique atomic structures, allowing for products that are stronger, lighter, and resistant to wear and corrosion.
Once thing that can be said for Apple, they are always looking for new and better ways to make their products more resistant to wear and tear, too bad more company’s don’t follow Apple’s example for quality and craftsmanship.
What do you think? Does this sound like Apple caring more about their products than other companies?

VLC for iOS May be Pulled from the App Store

VLC, the popular meida player that's developed by French 3rd party studio Applidium, has landed on the iPad in September and then on the iPhone last week to play almost any video. But as noticed by iLounge, it may be pulled from the app store very soon for some reasons explained below.

Apple has been sent a formal notification of copyright infringement regarding the way VLC for iOS is distributed in the App Store. Rémi Denis-Courmont, one of the primary developers of VLC, explained that Apple’s iTunes Terms and Conditions don't allow users to install both free and paid apps on more than 5 devices. This goes against the original GNU license VLC's code is based on.
In any case, while the rules for distribution of open-source or "free" (as in speech) software are extremely relaxed, they do exist and have to be abode by. VLC and open-source software in general would not have reached their current quality and success if it had not been for their license. Therefore, blatant license violation cannot be tolerated at any rate. Concerned users are advised to look for application on more open mobile platforms for the time being.
So, in case you don't have the app already on your iPhone, better get it now as it still available Here  or  Mirror for free.

Here's some good news for all people over there waiting for baseband 05.14.02 unlock on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Few days ago, MuscleNerd the iPhone hacker of the iPhone Dev Team has replied a user asking him about iPhone 3GS unlock on iOS 4.1. the reply will satisfy you a lot.

Here's what MuscleNerd tweeted in reply to the guy:
MuscleNerd: if you’re on 3G or 3GS, just a day or 2 at most after 4.2 is public (just enough time to verify stuff)This reply brings both bad and good news, why? because he didn't mention anything about iPhone 4 baseband 02.10.04, this may indicates that iPhone 4 unlock may be delayed and not released at this time.

iOS 4.2 should be released early in November (this is very near). To sum it all up, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G on baseband 05.14.02 will get the unlock early in November. Stay tuned as we will keep you informed whenever iOS 4.2 is available and followed by the unlock.

Can’t Run APT-GET from SSH/MobileTerminal? Try this

After jailbreaking for 4.1, many of you will notice you can no longer run apt-get commands from the command line, whether SSH or MobileTerminal. This is mind boggling, and none of the support sites or forums seem to have the right answer. The most common suggested solution is to delete some sources from Cydia and re-add them. This doesn’t work.

After a few hours of troubleshooting, I gave up and assumed it was a limitation of shit greenpois0n. However, today I accidentally found the answer, and it’s quite simple to make this work again.
The root of the problem is pretty simple. You didn’t install EVERYTHING that you had installed on your previous jailbreak. I personally don’t use APTBackup for restoring jailbreak apps after major iOS updates, since it sometimes installs incompatible apps that render my iDevice unstable. The solution is just as simple.
Install CyDelete from Cydia. While it was installing, I noticed a bunch of apt-related dependencies being installed and my lightbulb went off. CyDelete uses apt and dkpg commands to uninstall jailbreak apps. It probably uses the same commands that I would from its own command line. I was right. I immediately tested out apt-get via the command line after my iDevice respringed, and sure enough it worked!
Anyone else get this problem? Sound off if this helps.

[UPDATE1]How to Activate FaceTime in Unsupported Countries with Tweak "Middle What"

For some reasons far beyond my understanding, FaceTime has been banned from several countries in the Middle East, and up until today, there was to way to activate FaceTime there. It’s now possible thanks to a hack called FaceTime Hacktivator.
UPDATE1 is more easy to get the Tweak via BigBoss REPO at Cydia
Pics BELOW+HOW TO Steps:

Like most hack, it requires your iPhone 4 to be jailbroken. If it’s not done yet, you can do so using PwnageTool, GreenPois0n, or LimeRa1n. Once jailbroken, follow these instructions to activate FaceTime in any unsupported countries, including in the Middle East…OR:

Step 1: Go to Cydia and add the following source: http://apps.iphoneislam.com
Step 2: Search for FaceTime Hacktivator. Install the app and reboot your iPhone.
Step 3: Go to Settings > Phone, and activate the FaceTime option.
Step 4: Your iPhone will then send the activation SMS.
You’re now good to go!
If you have any question, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Google Adds App Store Search to the iPhone

You can now search the App Store through Google search on the iPhone. Google recently added an “iPhone apps” category to its search options. This new option is available within the official Google Mobile app and the Google web interface on mobile Safari.

Google indexes the App Store to bring you only iPhone apps when you are searching on your iPhone or iPod touch. You are given a list of results with the price, average star rating and a brief description for your viewing pleasure. Nothing too fancy though.
When you click the app you want to go to, Google merely takes you to the iTunes web preview page. And the preview page doesn’t even prompt the App Store app to open, which is odd…
iPhone app results from the App Store are also brought into your main Google search results. The new “iPhone apps” category is simply something you can select from the search category list to refine your results.
Is Google trying to make up for the occasional sluggishness when searching the App Store? I’m not sure. This new addition to Google web search honestly seems quite random. Apparently, Google has added the feature to both Android and iOS, allowing users to search their respective app stores with the new category.
Will you be using Google search to find your iPhone apps now? I personally don’t see the incentive. The results are a tad bit quicker, but the App Store interface is more interactive and to the point. What do you think?

Google Adds Improvements to Gmail in Mobile Safari

Fret not, Google has heard your cries for an improved mobile Safari experience, they’ve seen your tears, and they’ve felt your pain. As a result, an updated version of Gmail for mobile Safari is now live at last.

What new features can you expect to see? Well, too be honest, they’re more on the aesthetics side of the house, meaning they don’t add much in the way new functionality. Check inside for the details on not one, but two new improvements for Gmail on mobile Safari…
One thing I’ve always despised about Gmail for mobile Safari was the dreaded floating tool bar. It felt like you were browsing back in 2002 all over again, or something, with that annoying little thing following your every move.
Thankfully, Google has axed the floating toolbar for a more professional looking static bar, which is still visible wherever you are, it’s just permanently integrated into the UI.
The second feature that Google has implemented is improved scrolling functionality. I can’t pretend to have used Gmail on mobile Safari long enough to notice a difference, but hey, I’ll take their word for it.
What do you think about these latest improvements to Gmail on mobile Safari? Also, if you’re still using Safari to access your Gmail in the first place, please tell us why, I’d honestly like to know your reasoning behind this.

White iPhone 4 Delayed Until Spring 2011

Yesterday we informed you that you can start reserving your white iPhone 4 from the app store app on your device. Unfortunately, earlier today, we were shocked by a new report that a representitve from the Cupertion based company has informed Reuters that white iPhone 4 delayed until spring of 2011. That was really shocking!

(Reuters) - Apple Inc said on Tuesday that it would delay release of its eagerly anticipated white iPhone again, this time until next spring.
If you are a tech fan, you may know that this is the third delay for white iPhone 4, first when they launched it, second when Apple reported that it will be available later this year, and now we have to wait to the spring of 2011. iOS 4.1 Critical Bug Lets You Bypass Passcode Lock [Video]

There's critical bug found in the iOS 4.1 of the iPhone 4, this bug lets you bypass iPhone 4 passcode lock and allows you to make calls and access contact information. There's a simple technique for how to do this, you just have to lock your iPhone with a passcode then press emergency call and type a non existing number (as ###). Next tap the call button and immediately hit the lock button. It should open up the Phone app where you can see all your contacts, call any number, etc.

After your iPhone passcode is unlocked you can make calls, send emails, you can see the entire list of contact, recent call history and voicemails. Well this is an highly crirtical bug in iOS 4.1, it might be a risk for so many people. So, Apple, you have to say something about this and fix it immediately !
