How to Install Cydia 1.1.4 on Older Devices (Guide)

After the release of Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1,
we got a new version of Cydia like always. This time we got a new and a fast version of Cydia 1.1.4. In the previous untetheredJailbreak of Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 for all A4 devices and below we had Cydia 1.1.3. We all know that the tool, Absinthe performs the Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 without going into DFU mode. It simply puts the device into the restore mode and the work is done.
The Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 by Absinthe is one click. This new Untethered jailbreak brought us a new Cydia which we cannot have on older Devices because there is no bootrom level exploit found so far by the Dream Team for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Due to no Bootrom Level Exploit, the Untethered jailbreak Exploit for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 cannot be ported to tools like Redsn0w, PWNAGE Tool, and Sn0wbreeze so far. They might come up with something real soon.
Those who own and iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are very happy to get Cydia 1.1.4 on their Devices after the Untethered Jailbreak. Those of who you are on iPhone 4 and below waiting for an update of the tools to get new Cydia 1.1.4 won’t have to wait any more now. Now you can also get Cydia 1.1.4 on your iDevice right away.
Before we proceed on, you must have some basic knowledge of SSH into your iDevice or you must know how to use iFunbox (Windows), Cyberduck (MAC) and iFile (iDevices).
Steps to Follow:
Step 1:
You must be Jailbroken on your iDevice. Once you are done Jailbreaking then download and install iFile from Cydia.
Step 2:
Open iFunbox (Windows), Cyberduck (MAC OS X) and connect your iDevice into PC/MAC.
Step 3:
Once your iDevice is connected, see for RAW FILE SYSTEM in iFunbox under your iPhone name.
Step 4:
Now download Cydia 1.1.4 from here. After you have downloaded Cydia 1.1.4, then place it into Root on iFunbox.
Step 5:
After copying Cydia 1.1.4 in IFunbox, now pick your iDevice and open iFile. When you will open iFile, simply navigate to that location where you putted Cydia 1.1.4 and install it.
Step 6:
Once the installation is done. Simply reboot our iDevice and you will have Cydia 1.1.4 up on your iDevice.

If you are facing any difficulties using this guide, so you can add this “cydia.myrepocpace.com/darsn0w” repo and install the new Cydia from there.

RedSn0w Updated to Fix iBooks DRM Issues

The Dev Team has recently updated their renowned RedSn0w jailbreak tool
to version 0.9.10b5 in order to fix the DRM issue for iBooks on jailbroken devices.
This fix, which was developed by PlanetBeing and integrated into RedSn0w, overcomes the jailbreak detection by iBooks that would cause some images to not display properly, if at all…
If you’ve had problems with iBooks, you may want to run RedSn0w on top of your existing jailbreak, making sure you do not select Cydia, should you decide to do that.
The Dev Team notes on its blog that:
If auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells you no identifying data was found, you can always pre-select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.
If you don’t want to use RedSn0w, Corona should be updated shortly to version 1.0-6 to incorporate this iBooks fix. When it hits Cydia, you can simply install or update the package.
As always, you can download RedSn0w from our downloads section.

How to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on Linux

Now that the Linux version of Absinthe has been released,
all major platforms have access to the jailbreak tools needed to jailbreak their iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
Since there is no iTunes for Linux, things can be slightly more tricky, but it’s still extremely easy to apply the Absinthe untethered jailbreak on Linux.
Step 1: If you haven’t already, install the libimobiledevice package on your Linux distribution. This will allow Linux to talk to your iPad 2, iPhone 4S, and other iOS devices.
Installing this package is fairly easy. I’m on Ubuntu, and all I did was the following:
  • In terminal type: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmcenery/ppa
  • accept any warnings and install.
  • Next type: sudo apt-get update
  • Visit the Ubuntu software center and search for libimobiledevice, and install libimobiledevice-utils. It might then ask you to reboot. Do so, and upon reboot Linux should recognize your device.
Again, this could differ depending on your Linux distro, so just take this as a loose guide. For other distributions or more information, visit http://www.libimobiledevice.org/
Step 2: Download Absinthe v0.3 from our downloads page, and unpack on your desktop.
Step 3: If you’re on a x86 machine double click absinthe.x86, if you’re on a 64-bit machine (likely) double click absinthe.x86_64 to run Absinthe.
Step 4: Ensure that your device is powered on, and that Absinthe detects your device, then click Jailbreak.
Step 5: Let Absinthe finish the entire process, no user intervention is needed until then end. Once the loading bar is complete, find the Absinthe icon on your iDevice’s Home screen, and launch it to complete the jailbreak.
Step 6: Once your device reboots, you should see the Cydia icon on your desktop.
That’s it folks, easy peezy.
If you’re a Linux user, by all means sound off in the comments about Absinthe, jailbreaking, and iOS support in Linux in general, we’re interested in hearing your perspective on things.

Absinthe Updated to v0.3, Includes Linux Version

Version 0.3 of the Absinthe iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak
utility was released a moment ago by the Chronic Dev Team, and with it comes support for Linux.
If you’re already jailbroken with v0.2, there is no need to attempt to reapply the jailbreak with the latest version, because there’s nothing really new besides a few cosmetic changes and a fix for a rare bug that most won’t encounter.
Chronic Dev Team member @pimskeks speaks on the release:

Besides, if you tried to reapply the jailbreak, it would simply refuse since the app detects whether or not the device is already jailbroken.
For Linux users, this is very good news. Historically, Chronic Dev has been one of the few jailbreak developers to support the “3rd” operating system. Head over to our downloads page in order to download version 0.3 of Absinthe. There are also downloads for OS X and Windows, but again, these should be used for new jailbreaks only.
Are you a Linux user? Are you happy to see support for the A5 jailbreak come to your platform?
