How to Untether RedSn0w Jailbreak for Verizon iPhone Running iOS 4.2.7

If you’ve jailbroken your Verizon iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.7 with RedSn0w,
you know that you’ve only got a tethered jailbreak. Lucky for you, there’s a new Cydia package that allows you to untether your currently tethered RedSn0w jailbreak.
Following the update to Sn0wBreeze for the Verizon iPhone, an untether solution has been pushed for RedSn0w users and is now available in Cydia.
iH8Sn0w,
“For users who currently have a tethered 4.2.7 jailbreak via redsn0w (by pointing to the 4.2.6 ipsw), I was able to contact my buddy @pushfix. Hes managed to put together a Cydia package to untether your currently tethered Verizon 4.2.7 phone.”
RedSn0w is available on Mac OS X and Windows. The recent Sn0wBreeze untethered jailbreak is only available for Windows users.
Step 1: Add the following Cydia repo: http://cydia.pushfix.info
Step 2: Search for and install the “Verizon Untether for 4.2.7” Cydia package.
Step 3: Reboot your iPhone.
You should now have an untethered RedSn0w jailbreak for the Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.7!
Let us know how this method works for you. Were you able to successfully untether your RedSn0w jailbreak on the Verizon iPhone?

Jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.7 with Sn0wBreeze

The Sn0wBreeze jailbreak tool for Windows has been updated with support for the Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.7.
iH8Sn0w has updated Sn0wBreeze with a new payload for an untethered jailbreak on the latest version of iOS for the Verizon iPhone.
If you are a Windows user with a Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.7, you can now perform an untethered jailbreak with Sn0wBreeze…
“sn0wbreeze 2.6.1: Verizon love!
Well, after i0n1c released his untether exploit for 4.3.1, Apple shortly pushed out 4.3.2 AND 4.2.7. i0n1c’s payload was ported over to 4.3.2 in a short period of time but not 4.2.7. This made Verizon users very frustrated.
I originally ordered a Verizon iPhone 4 for my upcoming SHSH blobs dumper. Then I + many others on twitter realized that an untether was not available for 4.2.7. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sick and didn’t do much, but today I was finally able to get the strength to work on this Verizon untether. Since i0n1c’s payload is not easily reversible, I went to previous exploits.
After trying, pod2g’s + posixninja’s kernel exploit for 4.2.x is STILL in 4.2.7! After some more work, I managed to get this thing untethered!
So, this new release includes that new payload to untether + jailbreak 4.2.7.”

Let us know if you end up jailbreaking your Verizon iPhone with Sn0wBreeze. How did it go?

Cydia Creator Jay ‘Saurik’ Freeman Shows Why You Should Jailbreak Your iPhone [Video]

One of the most common questions asked of people in the iOS jailbreak community is a simple one: why should I jailbreak my device?
It’s a hard one to answer – some like the powerful tools, others just want to customize their home screen. Head of all things Geek Robert Scoble decided to ask this very same question of the guy behind the jailbreak App Store Cydia, Jay Freeman and filmed the answers.

What it boils down to is customization and tools. Freeman shows off a couple of tweaks such as a Twitter app that is activated by swiping down from the iPhone’s status bar (qTweeter) and a way to quickly access settings using a similar gesture (SBSettings).
Whether these kinds of additions to the iOS world are enough to warrant any possible instabilities as well as the inevitable wait for a new jailbreak every time a new version of iOS comes out very much depends on the user, but the act of jailbreaking is as easy as ever these days and a restore is just a click away should you not like the experience.

ipswDownloader Now Available for Windows, Download iOS Firmware with Ease

A couple days ago we told you about a nifty little tool for the Mac called ipswDownloader.
The app allows you to manually download just about any iOS firmware version for your iDevice.
The only negative thing about ipswDownloader was that it was only available on the Mac. Luckily, someone has ported ipswDownloader for Windows! Now Windows users can download firmware with these easy tool…
The coder that ported ipswDownloader notes that the program is not yet as full-featured as its Mac counterpart.
“I’ve ported over ipswDownloader from Mac to Windows, its initial release doesn’t include all the features of the OSX version but I’m working on adding them in the future.”
If you want an easy way to find and download specific versions of iOS firmware, ipswDownloader is for you. The Windows version is available as a free download.

Apple’s White iPhone 4 Receives a Proper Unboxing Treatment

True, the iPhone 4 has been out for like, forever, so it normally wouldn’t warrant an unboxing video.

I mean, you could feel free to make an unboxing video for your iPhone 4 right now, and no one would care.
But when you throw the color white into the ring, things change all of the sudden. Techies get excited, unboxing videos get made, and people grab their popcorn.
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, the long lost cousin of the device you probably have sitting in your pockets right now…the White iPhone 4

I think this is literally going to bring a tear to my eye! No more white iPhone 4 rumors for us to cover, no more sleepless nights as I ponder the sad reality of a white-iphone-4-less world.
It’s here folks, and this isn’t just some case replacement with pilfered Foxconn parts. No, this is the real thing.
Now it’s question time: Are you sad that all of the white iPhone 4 rumors will come to a grinding halt? Are you getting one?
C’mon, it’s been nearly a year already, vent you frustration, pleasure, pain, whatever, below!

ScreenSaver Gives Your iPhone… Well… You Get the Idea

It’s not real hard to figure out what an app called ScreenSaver does.
The Cydia application has been making some noise around the web the last few days, so we figured we should mention it on iDB.
For those who don’t know, ScreenSaver takes .mov files stored in its Library folder and automatically plays them when the iPhone auto-locks itself. It sounds pretty cool, but does it really work as advertised?
It certainly does what it claims to do, but I think we are using the term ‘Screen Saver’ a bit lightly. The iPhone’s display typically shuts off when your phone auto-locks, so technically that saves your screen more than playing a video. Not to mention the negative effect it would have on your battery to play a movie every time your phone locks.
Negativity aside, this is a pretty neat parlor trick. I’ve already had multiple people ask me about the ScreenSaver app after they noticed my phone wasn’t black-screened like everyone else’s. The screen shot below is of one of the default screen savers, Burning.
The included movie files are fantastic, but you aren’t stuck with these 5 clips. The app gives you the file path to add new screen savers via SSH or iFile. Just make sure your clips are in the .mov format and transfer them to /var/mobile/Library/ScreenSavers/.
The app doesn’t include any other settings, and the screen savers totally override your previous lock screen. But to be fair, the developer does note that this app is meant to be more of a toy, and should be disabled when you are done playing with it.
I don’t see anyone using this on a regular basis, but it definitely belongs in that ‘Watch what my phone can do’ category. If you haven’t tried out this cool little app, it’s available in Cydia and the download is free.
What do you think? Have you tried this out yet?

Federal Lawsuit Filed Over Apple's Location Tracking in iOS

Bloomberg briefly reports that a lawsuit has been filed in U.S. fedral court tareting Apple over privacy concern regarding the tracking bug which spotted on iOS devices running iOS 4.x. Pricisly, location information being stored on iOS devices running iOS 4.x which are easily-accessible used by third party.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) was sued for alleged privacy invasion and computer fraud by two customers who claim the company is secretly recording and storing the location and movement of iPhone and iPad users, according to a federal complaint filed today in Tampa, Florida.
You have also to read how Steve Jobs replied one of iPhone users about tracking issue .

Steve Jobs says Apple doesn’t track anyone

What is the tracking location issues in the iPhone ?
for who don't know the Security researchers in apple have discovered a file in Apple’s iOS local backup system that keeps track of your entire location history, in format perfectly readable by a computer. The file, by default stored unencrypted in the iOS database that can be backed up to a computer using iTunes, keeps track of “everywhere you go” by triangulating the 3G signal against the nearest cell towers, and offers a way to private detectives or people who might get their hands on your device / computer to have access to your moves in the past.
One of the Security researchers suggest that this might be a simple bug or “an oversight” on Apple’s part. He claims that a “little-birdie” told him the consolidated.db file acts as a cache for your location, and it’s not meant in any way to be used by Apple to track your location history and moves; the file is never sent to Apple’s servers, but is kept locally on your 3G device and on your computer.

Today one of MacRumors readers emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs asking for clarification on the issue:

Q: Steve,
Could you please explain the necessity of the passive location-tracking tool embedded in my iPhone? It’s kind of unnerving knowing that my exact location is being recorded at all times. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me before I switch to a Droid. They don’t track me.
A: Oh yes they do. We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false.
Sent from my iPhone
i Think that apple is Responsible for that issue Read more in the full article here.Just stay tuned for more updates

President Obama Owns An iPad 2 - Photo

Amazing photos come from the White House The President of the United States carries an iPad 2,
according to a new Flickr site photo that released from the White House. Although Barack Obama confirmed he owned an iPad just weeks ago, this is the first time it was confirmed to be a second-generation iDevice.

As we see on the picture below the president Obama carrying an iPad 2 with a gray polyurethane Smart Cover.

Auto Location Will Automatically Turn the iPhone’s Location Services On and Off

Are you still a little paranoid about the iPhone location-tracking file?
Are you afraid that Apple or your carrier is tracking your every move?
Lucky for you, there’s a new jailbreak tweak called Auto Location that automatically toggles your iPhone’s Location Services on and off. When you’re not using an app that requires GPS, Auto Location will turn the iPhone’s Location Services off. When you open an app that requires Location Services, Auto Location turns it back on…
Description,
“Do you usually enable the location switch only when you use an application that requires location services? Have you ever forgotten to enable location after launching the application? That’s enough! Auto Location is for you! This teak automatically enables and disables location services only when needed.
For example, when you launch the Navigation GPS application or any GPS tracker, Auto Location will automatically enable location services; and if you close the app, the tweak will immediately disable location services if there is no need to use location updates anymore.
Auto Location detects the apps that need location services by using your settings in General > Location Services.
Auto Location is also compatible with any intentional settings, it doesn’t override location set by other tweaks. For example, if you schedule location to be active during hours of work, Auto Location will never disable it if you use and quit an application that requires location services.”
Auto Location doesn’t have an app icon or settings to configure. Once installed, the tweak will just sit in the background and toggle Location Services for you.
Although this tweak won’t keep Apple from collecting your location information throughout the day (you need untrackerd for that), it should help improve your iPhone’s battery life. Location Services (like any other system resource) will affect your iPhone’s battery performance when turned on.
If you have Auto Location toggle Location Services when needed, you should see a noticeable improvement in the life of your battery.
Auto Location is available for free in Cydia.
What do you think of this tweak? Have you noticed an improvement in battery life since you installed Auto Location?

Leaked Photos of iPhone 4S, Could Have Bigger Screen

As we get closer to WWDC this year, expect next generation iPhone 5 rumors to really pick up (as if they haven’t already).
Apple’s annual developers conference is set for June 6th and promises to unveil iOS 5 and hopefully provide information on the next iPhone.
Although there has been no official announcement from Apple, there has been some interesting evidence floating around the web over the last few weeks regarding the next iPhone. The latest comes from MIC Gadget, who posted some pictures this morning of the proposed iPhone 4S…
The gadget site doesn’t offer any explanation as to how the photos were obtained, nor do they appear to be very confident that they’re real. However, if you look back at recent reports regarding the iPhone 5, these photos seem to match up with previous information.
There have been multiple rumors pointing to a similar design of the iPhone 4 for the iPhone 5 (or 4S). This wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary for Apple, as many of you recall the iPhone 3GS.
Apple recently started sending out iPhone 4-looking devices with A5 chips to app developers. Since then, we’ve seen several leaked photos of white, iPhone 4-looking devices. The snapshots posted on BGR‘s website this weekend looked exactly like a white iPhone 4, but it obviously wasn’t.
The photos posted to MIC’s page this morning match both the BGR photos and the video released last week of an iPhone running a mysterious version of iOS. The pictures also seem to support the theory that the next iPhone will get a larger screen.
As you can tell by the side-by-side comparison, the “leaked” iPhone model has a slightly bigger screen than the current one. The new screen size looks to be about 3.7 inches instead of 4.
This is obviously all speculation at this point. Apple could easily be keeping the new iPhone design a complete secret. If you remember, the iPhone 4 that was found in a bar inside a 3G-like casing.
But if the prototypes are accurate, expect the next iPhone to look extremely similar to the current model, with updated hardware. I just hope that Apple wouldn’t make everyone wait until September for a “bridge” product.

‘MyApps’ Makes it Easier to Find Jailbreak Apps And Tweaks From Specific Developers

Have you ever found a tweak so ridiculously useful, so incredible helpful,
so indubitably beneficial, that you wanted to find and download every other app or tweak from that developer?
I’ve found myself in that boat quite a few times over the years, and usually it results in something resembling a search and rescue mission with the help of Google.
If there’s one feature that Cydia needs, it needs a “more by this developer” section, so that we can find more apps from a particular developer that we’ve grown fond of.
Until that day comes, there is a stopgap app that has been released on the Cydia store entitled MyApps. Does it fit the bill until Saurik gives us the real thing?
The answer to that question is an unenthused, “sort of.” Upon installing the app, you’ll notice a new ‘CyApps’ icon on your desktop. The app icon itself is a bit unassuming, but I suppose it gets the job done in a bind.
After loading MyApps you’ll find a search bar that allows you to type on the name of a particular app or tweak, and find all other tweaks from that same developer.
The catch is that this only works with apps hosted on BigBoss repos, so depending on what apps you like, there’s a pretty big chance that some of your favorites won’t be listed.
Along with that caveat, the method in which some Cydia apps are categorized means that you won’t always find all apps associated with a particular developer.
Saurik has been working hard to improve the functionality and organization of Cydia. The recently released Cydia 1.1 was a good starting point to handle some of the issues with its underbody; let’s hope the next big update addresses some of Cydia’s organizational opportunities.
Until then, MyApps is a decent attempt to provide a sort of stopgap. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s free for jailbroken iPhones. It might prove to be satisfactory to you, depending on your needs.
Have you been wishing for such functionality?

Unlock iPhone 4.3.2 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.2 [Tutorial]

The iPhone Dev Team today has released an updated version of Ultrasn0w unlock to make it compatible with iOS 4.3.2 on iPhone 4 and 3GS, running on the old baseband.

It should be noted though that this release of Ultrasn0w is not a new unlock for iPhones with newer basebands, instead, it only fixes the compatibility issues on the existing devices, which are jailbroken (with preserved basebands: 01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00) on iOS 4.3.2 using PwnageTool 4.3.2 or Sn0wbreeze 2.6.
For iPhone 3GS Only: How to Update iPhone 3GS to 06.15.00 Baseband for Unlock:
Note: Updating iPhone 3GS baseband to iPad’s 06.15.00 might result in loss of GPS functionality.
Step 1: First up, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone 4 or 3GS on iOS 4.3.2 and preserve the old baseband using either PwnageTool on Mac, or Sn0wbreeze on Windows.
Step 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on the supported basebands using Ultrasn0w 1.2.2 from Cydia. To do this:
  • Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
  • Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
  • Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

  • Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.comand touch on“Add Source” to add this repo if you haven’t already.

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.
  • After installation is completed. Search for “ultrasn0w 1.2.2” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier.

Step 3: Now simply restart your iPhone and voila! you should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 4 or 3GS, running iOS 4.3.2 !

PwnageTool 4.3.2, Ultrasn0w Updated to support iOS 4.3.2

iPhone Dev Team has just released PwnageTool 4.3.2  includes the iOS 4.3.2 untether from @i0n1c
As you know PwnageTool is a Mac OS X tool,  It is to remind you that PwnageTool is used to build custom iOS 4.3.2 .iPSW files while preserving the baseband enabling iPhone users to use the latest version of Ultrasnow to unlock their devices on iOS 4.3.2.

Official update directly from iPhone Dev Team’s blog;
PwnageTool 4.3.2 now includes the iOS 4.3.2 untether from @i0n1c. (And look, the PwnageTool and iOS version numbers actually match!).

Some Cydia Functions Remain Offline Due to Ongoing Amazon Cloud Outage

I think we can pretty much agree that Amazon’s EC2 cloud computing reputation has taken a severe hit over the last couple of days.

It’s now officially Saturday, and while a lot of the sites that were initially impacted by Amazon’s massive cloud computing outage are back up, there are still quite a few casualties out in the wild.
One such casualty hits particularly close to home for the jailbreak community, that of course being Cydia.
Cydia is still partially down as of me writing this, and there is no sure-fire ETA to look forward to…
Say you wanted to buy a particularly tempting jailbreak app right this second? Well, we wish you the best with your endeavors.
That’s because purchasing continues to remain offline for Cydia. You can’t buy anything on the Cydia store because Amazon EC2 hosts the primary Cydia servers, including, yep, purchasing.
This is an unprecedented outage to a service that had a pretty good reputation beforehand. It’s proof that the cloud still has some kinks to work out.
There is no shortage of opponents to cloud computing, and it looks like we’ll be seeing even more coming out of the woodwork due to Amazon’s apparent single point of failure(s).
If you’ve been eyeing a particular paid jailbreak tweak, you’re going to have to wait on that, but for how long? I’m not sure even Amazon knows the answer to that question.
What do you think about the vulnerabilities present with cloud computing, especially with Apple getting ready to launch their own cloud music service?
Also, have you noticed any other issues overall?

iPhone 5 Shape design [Picture]

iPhone 5 rumors increases day after day but we’ve got some enlightening information (and an image) that might help paint a better picture of what Apple’s next play
in the mobile market could be you can Imagen the iphone 5 according to the rumors posted before the iPhone 5 will support A5 processor, will carry metal back, larger display, thinner bezel, iPhone 5 should be made of aluminum, with Dual-core processor, Support Dual SIM For Two Phone Lines, 12.6 Megapixel Camera - 1080p Video Recording, iPhone 5 will be Global Device supporting both GSM and CDMA connectivity rather than having separate models for each network standard.

But today According to thisismynext reports that the design of the next gen iPhone might be a little different than what we have hearing about in fact, the device could look something a little more like the image above
  • iPhone is set to radically change (“a completely redesigned handset”).
  • The sources said that the new model looks “more like the iPod touch than the iPhone 4.”
  • The phone will be thinner than the iPhone 4
  • The iPhone 5 may have a “teardrop” shape which goes from thick to thin (something along the lines of the MacBook Air profile).
ThisisMyNext is reporting from their sources that the next gen iPhone looks a lot like the iPod touch 4G.
In a sketch supplied to us by a source (on which the image above is based), the home button is doing double duty as a gesture area; this falls in line with testing we’ve seen for gestures on the iPad, and our sources say that gestures are definitely coming in a future version of iOS. The home button will likely be enlarged, but not scrapped altogether. Furthermore, we’re hearing that the screen on the device will occupy the entire (or near to it) front of the phone, meaning almost no bezel. Our source says the company is doing very “interesting things” with bonded glass technology, and has been exploring designs where the earpiece and sensors are somehow behind the screen itself, making for a device where the display is actually edge-to-edge. Regardless, the sketch we’ve seen suggests the screen will go up to 3.7-inches while keeping the current resolution, and at that size, pixel density goes from 326 to 312 (a drop of 13ppi). That means that Apple can still tout Retina Display technology (the claim is that anything above 300ppi means the pixels aren’t distinguishable at 12 inches). Rumors have been suggesting that the size would bump up to 4 inches, but at that size with the current resolution, pixel density drops to 288, making it harder for Apple to use the RD branding.

Any way i think that next gen iPhone will be the best Apple device in the world and we will see a very big battle between ِpple an Competitors thisismynext also reported that:
Now, keep in mind that this info isn’t fact — we’re getting lots of threads from lots of places and trying to make sense of the noise. The versions of devices our sources are seeing could be design prototypes and not production-ready phones. Still, there are strong indications that Apple will surprise a public that’s expecting a bump more along the lines of the 3G to 3GS — and this is some insight into where those designs might be headed...

White Cydia Icon After Jailbreak 4.3.1 / 4.3.2 [How to fix it]

Many users complain about facing Cydia white icon problem while jailbreaking their devices.
Some users asked: about the solution now you can fix it.

How to fix white Cydia icon after jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 / 4.3.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.6 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, 3G and iPad. You can follow the steps below to fix Cydia white icon.

Step 1: Open Redsn0w 0.9.6rc14.
Step 2: Select the same firmware you used when jailbreaking.
Step 3: Once IPSW identified, click "Next"
Step 4: Uncheck "Install Cydia" and select "Just boot tethered right now" and click next (Don't worry this will not affect your untethered jailbreak)
Step 5: Here, I recommend that you go ahead and be proactive by putting your iPhone into DFU mode prior to clicking "next".
Step 6: Once you click "next", the iPhone will go through the tethered boot process once. When you return to your home screen, Cydia should be back to normal.

I tried it myself and it worked well, tell me what about you.
