Apple’s Co-founder, Steve Wozniak, Confirms That the White iPhone 4 Will Ship Soon

Apple’s co-founder, Steve Wozniak, recently confirmed that issues with the infamous white iPhone 4 are fixed and that the product would be ready to ship in the near future.
In an interview with Engadget, Woz addressed some of the mysterious problems that have been preventing the white iPhone 4 from shipping.
According to Woz, the white paint was not the only problem with the mythical unicorn. The white iPhone parts were causing the iPhone’s camera to malfunction.
In the interview, Woz claims that Apple has fixed the production line issues with the white iPhone 4, and that shipping should begin in the distant future…
VentureBeat reports,
“In a conversation with Joshua Topolsky, editor of the AOL-owned tech blog Engadget, on the site’s eponymous online-video show today, Wozniak said that he ordered the white iPhone parts from a teenager online who somehow received them from Foxconn, who manufacturers the iPhone. When he tried to take a picture with the device’s flash, he said the photo looked as if it was taken through cellophane, confirming earlier rumors that the white case caused light leakage when the flash was used.”
We reported on the light leakage issue that VentureBeat is referring to in the summer of 2010. And according to Woz, that issue was a legitimate reason for the white iPhone not seeing the (pardon the pun) “light” of day.
Woz is positive that Apple has fixed the problems with the white iPhone 4,
Additionally, Wozniak said that his white iPhone 4 parts caused issues with its proximity sensor (although I think he’s actually referring to its ambient light sensor, which could see similar light leakage issues to the camera). He then confirmed that Apple has resolved the problems with the white iPhone 4, and that we’ll be seeing them soon.”
It seems that Verizon will be getting the white iPhone 4 as well when it finally ships,
“Wozniak also revealed that he’ll be picking up two Verizon iPhones — in black and white — to accompany his current trio of AT&T iPhones.”
This is interesting news from Woz. As Apple’s co-founder and someone who is definitely in “the know” at Cupertino, his word is quite credible.
White iPhone 4 rumors have been running rampant lately. In light of this news from Woz, the device can’t be too far away from actually shipping.
What do you think about this news? Have you given up hope on the white iPhone 4? If you’ve been holding out for one, I would recommend getting a regular iPhone and then buying a nice, white case and calling it even.

iPad 2: 1.2Ghz Dual Core CPU, 2 Cameras, No Retina Display, Anti-Reflective Screen?

Those Analysts just love to analyze don’t they? This time it’s Ming-Chi Kuo in a report for Concord Securities in Taiwan.
According to AppleInsider, this particular analyst is making some not-so bold predictions about what will and will not be found packed inside the yet unannounced iPad 2.

First up there’s the Retina Display, or rather the lack of it. According to the aforementioned report the iPad 2 will sport the same 1024×768 screen of its predecessor while incorporating a couple of improvements.
"The improvement of iPad 2 display," the report notes, "focuses on thickness and anti-reflection, not resolution. iPad 2 display module is 30~35% thinner than iPad 1 and it’s helpful for better form factor.
"Thanks to anti-reflection, iPad 2 could have better sunlight readable experience and it’s helpful for Apple to compete with Amazon’s fast growing Kindle business.
"The most important reason why iPad 2 won’t have retinal display is yield rate of panel making. At this point, making high resolution and bright IPS/FFS panel is not easy and the production volume and cost couldn’t meet Apple’s requirements."
The possibility of a high resolution display is one that has polarized both analysts and industry pundits alike. Many expect a mind-boggling resolution to grace the next generation iPad while the rest (some would say, realistic ones) believe it’s just not feasible if Apple want to hit that magic $499 price-point they love so much.
Next the report moves onto what is expected to power the device, with a Cortex A9-based dual core processor being the order of the day.
"iPad 2 will use [ARM] Cortex-A9 dual core processor running at 1.2GHz. Increasing 1~2% single core processor clock results in a 3~5% power increase and dual core could get a better balance between computing power and power consumption. That’s the reason why Apple will use dual core for iPad 2."
Until recently a dual core 1.2GHz CPU in a tablet would have seemed overkill, but with BlackBerry’s PlayBook packing a similar punch it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Apple take the fight to the Canadian outfit.
Expect the RAM to see a bump to 512MB, the same as the iPhone 4 and double the current generation iPad too, says the report.  Multi-tasking and on-device video editing benefit greatly from the extra memory on the iPhone 4, so this move is a no-brainer for Apple.
When it comes to 3G chips, Ming-Chi Kuo believes separate GSM and CDMA models will be available while the WiFi only option will remain. No sign of a single-chip solution here, which could mean a similar setup for iPhone 5.
Other details include a dual-camera system similar to the iPod touch rather than iPhone 4 (Front camera is 0.3 mega-pixel and rear one is 1 mega-pixel) and the expected SD card slot.
The report ends with a prediction that around 5 million iPad 2s will be manufactured by Foxconn in the first quarter of 2011, along with a list of suppliers for individual parts. Whether any of this info is accurate remains to be seen, but much of it does tally with what many in the industry are expecting. Of course, we just don’t know whether this particular analyst has inside information or if he just agrees with everyone anyway!

FakeCarrier App From Cydia Gives You a Verizon iPhone 4 Ahead of Launch

For those of you who simply can’t wait a week to be free from the chains of AT&T, FakeCarrier will at least give you visual satisfaction while you wait for that February 10th launch date.
Found in Cydia in the pre installed Big Boss Repository, FakeCarrier from Eric of the mirror dev team allows you to change the wireless carrier name to whatever you would like.
Now the app itself has been around for a while as well as others like it, such as MakeItMine, but I figured this was a good time to remind everyone of this neat and simple iPhone program…
To download, you’ll just open up Cydia, and press the ‘Search’ icon. Type in FakeCarrier and you should immediately see the application. Once the app is done installing, your phone will reboot and the FakeCarrier icon should now appear on your springboard. The app itself is extremely straight forward.
You are given the options to edit the carrier name, the time, and even the battery reading. This application truly is a testament to the hundreds of iPhone customization tools available to the jailbreak community through Cydia and to jailbreaking itself. You’d be surprised how much fun I’ve had with my iPhone displaying the Verizon logo in the top left corner out and about and at work.
Anyone using this app or another like it? Let us know in the comments!

“Big Surprise” to be Included With Upcoming GreenPois0n Untethered Jailbreak?

If you’ve been keeping your ear to the street, a.k.a. keeping up with the latest jailbreak news on Twitter, then you may have stumbled upon several rumblings about a “big surprise” that will be included with the upcoming GreenP0is0n jailbreak.

This newest version of GreenPois0n will provide an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 firmware, and is destined to arrive any day now.
What could the so-called “big surprise” be? Will it be something we’ve seen before? Will it be a totally new feature that will blow our minds?
A day or so ago on Twitter, @Jaywalker9988 posted a tweet saying that “…we have something in store for your guys in the new GP.” Now normally, seeing something like this on Twitter wouldn’t be huge big deal, but then he goes on to say that he works on GP, and that he just showed someone the surprise.
What surprise? Is this even legit?
I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, that is until Chronic Dev Team member @p0sixninja re-tweeted the comments from an individual who evidently was shown the surprise.
In response to the showing, they commented: “The surprise for the newest Green Poison [sic] is sick! I love it!”
Now of course this is just talk on Twitter, but I have to admit that it seems as if the Chronic Dev Team might have something big in store for us with the upcoming release of GreenPois0n.
All we can do now is speculate. What do you think the big surprise is?
I’ll go out on the limb and say perhaps there’s a baseband downgrade option thrown in to allow users on newer basebands to unlock. Extremely unlikely, but a guy can dream, can’t he?
Remember, this is just speculation on my end, nothing concrete until we hear the official word from Chronic Dev.

GeoHot’s RubyRa1n iPhone Jailbreak Coming After February 10th?

Did MuscleNerd just let the cat out of the bag? Not only did we post news this morning regarding pod2g’s recently discovered untethered jailbreak exploit, MuscleNerd dropped a hint about GeoHot’s next jailbreak move; presumably RubyRa1n.

Back on January 3rd, we posted about another dime dropped by MuscleNerd, which claims that GeoHot’s upcoming jailbreak will be an untethered jailbreak as well.
What else do we know about GeoHot’s next move?

According to that tweet, the jailbreak while untethered, won’t be for all devices.
It’s also apparent from MuscleNerd’s tweets that the upcoming jailbreak is an iboot-level exploit, which is deemed more valuable in the jailbreak community when compared to a userland exploit, due to its low level control.
While no concrete date exists, at least it gives us some clues as to what we may expect in the future.
One thing I will say though, is that the future of jailbreaking looks solid; lots of news coming out of the scene as of late.
Oh, and one more thing. When is the Verizon iPhone set to officially drop again? That’s right; on February 10th.
What do you think?

Greenpois0n RC5 coming VERY soon! Support for ALL DEVICES! Wiki confirms!

Installing this little tweak on your jailbroken iDevice makes the hardware fool iTunes into thinking it always has the latest version of iOS. No more accidental updates. Simple!

PS3 Firmware 3.56 Hacked / Jailbroken In Less Than 24 Hours !

Well that didn’t take long! As Engadget reports, Sony’s latest PS3 firmware v3.56 has been hacked in just 24 hours after its release.

With Sony obtaining a restraining order against hacking master George (Geohot) Hotz, it was left to KaKaRoToKS to work the magic, and the community was not disappointed. He has posted the signing keys online, and so it is now only a matter of time when custom firmwares for 3.56 are released.
CVG explains:
Wii hacker Youness Alaoui, also known as KaKaRoToKs, announced on Twitter that he’d successfully unpacked the firmware and published its signing keys, opening the door for new custom firmware to be created that would mimic the latest update and allow hacked PS3s to regain access to PSN.
Presumably this will now lead to another update coming for the PlayStation 3 with Sony hoping to close the door once and for all.
Of course, they haven’t managed it yet so I wouldn’t hold your breath just yet!

[Update]New Installous 4.1 and AppSync for 4.0+

Installous 4.1 with Metadataremover includet !
What does Mobilehunt and Metadataremover do ?
Answer:
MobileHunt allows Installous to search for apps on your iDevice that the Apptrackr database does not have. If you’re not familiar, Apptrackr is an online app database that allows you to search for cracked apps. If Installous detects an app that you bought from Apple’s App Store and Apptrackr currently does not have it, Installous will prompt you with:

You have an application that Apptrackr doesn’t. We will add the application to a queue in the background (if you say yes) and it will start uploading a small part of the app, kind of like uploading a torrent.
The idea is that MobileHunt acts as “reverse BitTorrent”. With BitTorrent, when you download a .torrent file your computer is told where to download tiny bits of data from. Ultimately all these tiny pieces of data you’ve collected from other people’s computers combine into one file (a movie, a song, or piece of software, etc.). MobileHunt does the opposite and collects tiny bits of data from everyone who has a certain app. Those data pieces are then formed together to create the same app for everyone with jailbroken iDevices to download.
What does Metadateremover do?

Answer:
MetadataRemovr allows the pads to stop receiving updates for your cracked applications

‘CleanStatus’ Sanitizes Your iPhone’s Status Bar

Let’s face it; the more apps and tweaks you install on your iPhone, the more likely it is for your status bar to become cluttered.
I’ve got it particularly bad, it’s such a problem that some of the status bar icons on my iPhone’s screen were beginning to overlap.
It’s almost as if the developer of CleanStatus read my mind, because as soon as I started looking for apps and tweaks to disable or get rid of, here comes CleanStatus…

CleanStatus is a free jailbreak tweak available on Cydia, hence no app icons are placed on your Home screen upon installing it. Instead, you’re greeted with a nice assortment of options in your Settings.app, options that are bound to make your status bar as clean as a whistle.
Among the bountiful lot of options that litter the settings for CleanStatus are toggles for Clock/Date, Data Network, Carrier Name, Airplane, Battery, Battery Percentage, Bluetooth, etc, etc. In total I counted 17 toggles that are initially available to disable on your status bar.
Once you turn a particular toggle on, the selected item disappears from your status bar in a matter of seconds. The cool thing about CleanStatus is that this happens on the fly, no pesky resprings required. This makes it something that I would consider using quite often, considering it’s a fairly quick operation.
Of course, not every status bar icon is available in the toggles, and frankly adding every one would be pretty much near impossible. Still, it can be expected that the developer will continue to support their release and add more popular toggles when deemed necessary.
CleanStatus can be downloaded via Cydia, and is free for jailbroken iPhones.

iPhone Dev Team Confirms RedSn0w 0.9.7b Untethered Jailbreak Coming Soon For Windows

Windows users, your long wait for an untethered jailbreak for 4.2.1 via Jailbreak Monte is almost over!

Yesterday, via twitter the iPhone Dev Team confirmed that since Apple is still allowing download of the 4.1 IPSW (not blobs) they will at last release a Windows version of RedSn0w 0.9.7 beta…

The Windows version will provide an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 via Monte 4.1. This means that you must have saved SHSH blobs for iOS 4.1.
Additionally, the iPhone Dev Team states that the Windows version will be noticeably slower than the Mac version as it uses file systems instead of RAM.
I don’t think that will matter to Windows users (including myself) as we have been patiently waiting since December for this!
Stay tuned for more details; we’ll keep you updated!
