Cydia 1.1.2 Released, Here’s How To Get It Today (Update x2)

Cydia, the standard application for managing unauthorized iOS apps and modifications,
has received an unofficial update today to version 1.1.2. Although it doesn’t contain a release log, it’s said to have fixed several graphical bugs in iOS 5 and be slightly snappier. Stick around to find out how to load Cydia 1.1.2 on your iOS device today.

You’ll Need:
  1. A jailbroken iOS device running Cydia. If you’ve jailbroken your device through normal means, you’re likely set.
  2. iFile & Safari Download Manager installed on your device.
Install using iFile:
Installing the new version of Cydia using iFile is the most efficient method, and the only one if you don’t have a computer around. Here’s how to do it:
  1. Open up Mobile Safari from your device and point it to this link.
  2. Follow the on-screen download instructions and select "Open with iFile" when you see a prompt.
  3. Click "Install".
  4. Respring or restart your phone.
Once you’ve followed the above steps, you should be able to launch the new version of Cydia.
Using SSH or iPhoneExplorer:
This method can be used by those who aren’t willing to purchase iFile. Although slightly more difficult, it should be pretty easy to understand for most users. Just follow the steps below:
  1. From your computer, download the new version of Cydia from here (it’s the same as the link above).
  2. Connect your device to your computer and launch iPhoneExplorer (download link). Point it to /private/var/root and place the file you’ve just downloaded in that directory.
  3. Respring or restart your phone. Once you’ve done this, Cydia should automatically update in the background.
Cydia is definitely the most popular package manager for iOS, second to the official App Store of course. Since its inception in 2008, it has become the standard way to manage unofficial iOS Apps and tweaks. Over the last few months, Saurik, Cydia’s developer, has worked hard to address many of the performance issues users have experienced. This new release takes another step towards fully fixing these problems, and begins the effort to make the software fully compatible with iOS 5, as speculated by @DinoD7, author of popular jailbreaking tutorials on YouTube:
There was no changelog to view but the assumption is that it includes some bug fixes and overall speed improvements. There’s a high likelihood that this release is one of the first steps of Cydia in its preparation for the release of iOS 5.

UPDATE x1: Saurik has left a comment on iPhoneDownloadBlog, warning users to stay away from this unofficial update.
UPDATE x2: For those of you who want to try it out, here is a mirror for Cydia 1.1.2.

Comex Drops Another Hint About Upcoming JailbreakMe Release [Updated]

If you go to JailbreakMe.com right now you will be greeted with a bunch of data that appears to be some logs of some sort.
I have absolutely no idea what all this mean but I am hoping one of you will figure it out.
With the release of JailbreakMe right around the corner, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was another clue of an imminent release…
Update: We’ve got a bit more of clarification about all this gibberish. iH8Sn0w told me that these are git commits that refer to GitHub. Additionally, fellow Twitter user @Cyclone321 tells me that “it looks like his source control commit history, which shows how long he has been working on it, commenting his code checkins”. These git commits go as far back as August 2010, which would mean that Comex has been working on that for about 10 months, which would explain why he says “it’s been far too long”. With this information on hand, I think the message behind this might not be that JailbreakMe is ready, but that Comex has been working his ass off on it for almost a year.
If you have more intel to provide on that, please feel free to leave a comment below.

iOS 5-Like Incoming Call Notifications Coming to Cydia

The last three weeks have been largely spent by developers writing new widgets that work with Apple’s new Notification Center,
part of iOS 5. We’ve seen so many widgets come out of the jailbreak community in the last 21 days that we can’t imagine Apple not giving normal App Store developers access to Notification Center‘s widgets, too.
A rare tweak to be shown off that doesn’t involve iOS 5′s Notification Center promises to bring iOS 5-like roll-down notifications to incoming calls, making them appear and work just like other notifications do…
We say ‘just like’ because, well, they don’t look quite as good.
Shown off by iPhoneItalia, the new tweak doesn’t yet have a release date and, in fact, doesn’t even have a name right now. Given the tweak’s apparent early development state we’re willing to give it the benefit of the doubt on the aesthetics front for now, too.
Incoming calls are handled like other notifications are in iOS 5, with a small window falling down from the top of the iPhone’s screen. Buttons for accepting and declining the call are also present, as is a photo of the caller if they happen to be in your Address Book.
If Google Translate is doing it’s job right though, there is one downside to this tweak, at least in its current early implementation. According to iPhoneItalia, the app has a tendency to freeze any application currently open when a call is received. Not earth-shattering, but certainly something we hope the developers can work around before the tweak is ready for public consumption.
We’ll let you know more information about this as yet un-named Cydia tweak as soon as we get it.
Now, how long before Apple decides to add incoming calls to its spangly new iOS notification system? Not long, we’re guessing.

How To Install iOS 5 Beta 2 On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Without Developer Account

Apple’s iOS betas tend to be a pretty big deal, especially for its legions of fanatical followers,
and iOS 5 is no different. When Apple released the first beta of iOS 5, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users clambered to get their hands on it, but the problem is you need to be an iOS developer to install it thanks to the way it checks your UDID (unique device identifier) with Apple’s servers.
If you’re really lucky, you’ll know a friendly neighborhood developer who will add your UDID to their developer account, or if you’re really desperate there are ways and means to pay to get your UDID added.
Or, there were the even more folks who took advantage of a loophole in the activation process, which enabled users to bypass the UDID checks. This caused great controversy for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, iOS betas really are betas. Google might be comfortable with calling services and apps a beta for years – we all remember Gmail’s infamous beta status – but when Apple says beta, it means it. Should the average Joe be installing a known-unstable operating system onto their devices, especially phones? Perhaps, perhaps not.
Secondly, the method involved making use of the ‘Emergency Call’ function inside iOS, which allows such calls to be made no matter which state  the OS in in. This means as soon as iOS 5 is installed, emergency calls can be made. Should people be making false calls to 911/999/whatever your local number is?
Thirdly – and yes I know I said ‘a couple’ earlier, iOS betas expire. If Apple bungs the hole used to install iOS 5 beta one in subsequent betas then you’re stuck. Hopefully the final release will arrive before the beta expires, but it’s a bit of a hole to be in.
Of course, these concerns didn’t stop half the internet installing iOS 5 on their own hardware, and all was well.
Now Apple has released its second iOS 5 beta, and we need a new way to bypass the UDID check. It just so happens, we have one too.
We recently received a tip from Ali Yousuf who has put together a video showing him doing just that, bypassing the UDID check of iOS 5 beta 2 on an iPhone 4.

Now before we go any further, let’s get this out of the way: we at iphoneland , or even myself for that matter, do not condone either the installation of iOS betas on non-developer hardware, nor do we condone the use of the Emergency Call function for the sake of getting hold of a piece of software early.
If this all goes pear-shaped and you’re left with a device that doesn’t boot/work/call/insert other problem here, then that’s on you folks.
That being said, if we don’t tell you then somebody else will – just be aware of the risks!
Right, now that’s done, onto the steps needed to do just what I’ve told you not to do.
1. Press Home button on the iPhone’s Activation Screen.
2. Tap the “Emergency Call” button.
3. Dial 112 (presumably this needs to be your local number, though we’ve not tried it ourselves) and press the Call button.
4. Press Home button.
5. Tap “Touch to return to call”
6. Press Home button.
7. Open “Phone” app and End Call.
Job done!
There you have it.
While seven steps aren’t excessive, our view stays the same: if you really must install iOS 5 betas on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad then either find yourself a friendly developer, or just stump up the $99 to get onto the developer program.
The added bonus of doing it legitimately is quite obvious – easy and immediate access to all future betas, no questions asked.
That’s got to be a better option, right?

RunningList: See a List of Your Open Apps on Your Spotlight Screen

Apple’s implementation of multitasking in iOS 4 is undoubtedly one of the best in the business.
Not necessarily in presentation, but in functionality. iOS’ ability to maintain a high level of performance with dozens of apps open easily outperforms the competition.
The problem is, since you are able to have so many apps running without noticeable effects, sifting through your multitask bar can become a bit tedious. If you’ve been looking for an alternative way to browse your list of running applications, well, let me introduce you to RunningList…
RunningList is a simple jailbreak tweak that lists all of your running applications in the Spotlight screen of iOS. The list is interactive, so tapping on an icon will launch you into its respective application.
The idea behind RunningList is awesome, especially since you can set an action in Activator to bring up your Spotlight screen. But there are a few downfalls that keep the utility from reaching its potential, at least with this version.
First off, as the list of apps gets longer, the Spotlight screen definitely starts to stutter. On top of the lag, there were several occasions that I noticed a running app icon disappear, without me closing it. And I’m sure I didn’t close it because there isn’t a way to close apps in RunningList, yikes.
Without a way to close down running applications, I can’t use this in place of  the multitasking bar, which was the whole point. Imagine being able to fluidly scroll through a list of your running applications, and then being able to close each app, with a single tap. Now we’re talking.
As much as I wanted to like this utility, it just couldn’t keep up with me. But hopefully the developer will fix some of the issues in the next update. If you want to check RunningList out for yourself, it’s available for free in Cydia.
Have you tried RunningList yet? What’s your favorite multitasking tweak?

Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 with RedSn0w

Apple just dropped iOS 5 Beta 2, and, of course, one of the first questions that comes to mind is: can we jailbreak it?

The answer came from Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd who confirmed that it is still possible to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 using the latest version of RedSn0w, the same that was released a couple weeks ago to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 1…
Of course, a lot of things are going to be broken so developers only should take the jailbreak road for iOS 5 Beta 2 so far, but if you like adventures, feel free to go ahead.
In order to jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2, you will have to use RedSn0w and point it to iOS 5 Beta 1. Note that, for legal reasons, we cannot post links to the beta downloads.
This is still a tethered jailbreak, which means you will have to plug your iPhone in every time you reboot.
Have you done it yet? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Gevey SIM Blocked on iOS Beta 2

The Gevey SIM allows you to unlock your iPhone without the need of a jailbreak.
The SIM card force activates the iPhone’s baseband by exploiting the emergency dialer function.
Apple released iOS 5 Beta 2 last night, and it appears that the Gevey SIM is now blocked from working in this second iOS build. It’s suspected that Gevey will try to battle Apple’s patching of its interposer while iOS 5 is still in the beta testing stages.

MuscleNerd confirmed on Twitter that the Gevey is indeed blocked in iOS Beta 2, after numerous tips and reports surfaced about the issue. Apple most likely received pressure from carriers to block Gevey’s exploit.
It’s assumed that Gevey will aggressively update its unlock while it still can. For now, iPhone 4 users with a preserved baseband who want an unlock with the Gevey SIM will need to stay on iOS 4, or remain on iOS 5 Beta 1.
For more information about iOS 5 Beta 2, check out our extensive roundup. Let us know about your experience with the Gevey SIM on iOS 5 in the comments below!

Everything You Need to Know About iOS 5 Beta 2

Apple released iOS 5 Beta 2 to developers last night.
The big highlights in iOS 5 Beta 2 include the added Wi-Fi sync functionality that Apple promised at WWDC, and the ability to restore from an iCloud backup during setup.
If you’re wondering about Apple’s latest iOS beta release, we’ve collected all of the information you need to know in one easy place.
Disclaimer: It’s important to remember that the iOS 5 beta is intended for developer use, not consumer. Betas are seeded to devs prior to the software’s public launch to test apps and iron out the bugs for primetime. If you’re not a dev and you don’t have an official Apple developer account, installing the iOS 5 beta is not advised (and it’s also illegal).

Compatibility

The iOS 5 Beta 2 is available for all iDevices, from the 3rd gen iPod touch and on up.
You must have iTunes 10.5 Beta 2 installed on your computer to sync a device running iOS 5 Beta 2. This beta version of iTunes is, of course, also available in Apple’s dev channel.
iMessage seems to be suffering some compatibility issues in iOS 5 Beta 2. iMessage users on the second beta will not be able to communicate with iMessage users on Beta 1.

Wi-Fi Sync

Apple enabled Wi-Fi syncing with iTunes in iOS 5 Beta 2. For more information, you can watch our video walkthrough of Wi-Fi sync below. Note: Wi-Fi Sync is currently Mac only.

iCloud Backup Restore

As well as PC-free setup, iOS 5 Beta 2 also lets you wirelessly restore your iDevice from an iCloud backup. We’ve also walked through this process in the video below.

Notification Changes

Lockscreen notifications have changed slightly in Beta 2. ItsAllTech explains,
“When you receive a text message, for example, the notification appears in a bubble like on iOS 4. As soon as another notification is received, the previous one goes to the top of the lock screen and is accessible by dragging down from the top of the time area. The new notification is shown in a bubble again.”
Basically, your latest notification gets shown in a bubble on the lockscreen, ala iOS 4. Not sure why Apple decided to add this design change, but it’s there nonetheless. Redmond Pie has taken a closer look at this new design change, if you’re interested.
We’ve also discovered that Notification Center now shows upcoming Calendar events.
Chronic has demonstrated some cool new lockscreen changes for incoming messages:

More Details

As TiPB points out, the initial welcome screen now displays UDID number for reference. An Apple ID is also required after initial setup to access the homescreen.
The iCloud icon has been changed to the brush metal look.
iFans has outlined some other changes:
  • OTA updates have been released, though none are currently available
  • If no notifications are available, Notification Center shows the text “No New Notifications”
  • Stock widget in the Notification Center is now off by default
  • Stock wallpapers are back, but are the same that were in iOS 4
  • General speed improvements, kills bugs that were present in iOS 5 beta 1

Jailbreak

MuscleNerd recently confirmed that the RedSn0w version for iOS 5 Beta 1 still works on Beta 2. That means you can get a tethered jailbreak with RedSn0w on Windows and the Mac.
We have yet to hear about Sn0wBreeze’s untethered iOS 5 jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, but iH8Sn0w has indicated that his Windows-only jailbreak tool will need updating for Beta 2 compatibility.
If you want the full change log, 9to5Mac has posted the complete “Notes and Known Issues” release from Apple on the iOS 5 Beta 2 SDK. You can check out all 148 notes there.
Let us know what you think of iOS 5 Beta 2. Have you gotten to play with it yet? What have you noticed?

iOS 5.0 Beta 2 Release Notes

  1. Notes and Known Issues
  2. The following issues relate to using the 5.0 SDK to develop code.
  3. Accounts
  4. When creating an iCloud account you can use any Apple ID provided it is a full email address and not a MobileMe account. If you have a MobileMe account, you can copy data from that account to an iCloud account to use during testing. You can find more information on iCloud at: http://developer.apple.com/icloud
  5. When setting up an iCloud or MobileMe account using the setup assistant and leaving Find My iPhone on, it might actually turn Find my iPhone off after the setup. Please verify in Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendar/YourAccount that Find my iPhone is toggled On after leaving the setup assistant.
  6. There is a problem finding a device using Find My iPhone on the MobileMe website (www.me.com) when switching from iCloud back to MobileMe. To workaround this issue:
  7. On the device go to Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendar->@me.com and Toggle Find My iPhone off and back on. Now the device should show up on MobileMe website.
  8. It is recommended that you disable Bookmarks on multiple accounts. If they are enabled, the results might be undefined.
  9. FIXED: When deleting a MobileMe account, an incorrect message is displayed on the device that says “This will delete all Photo Stream Photos from your device”. You can ignore this message.
  10. Address Book
  11. FIXED: Adding a CardDAV account of any kind (Yahoo, Address Book Server, etc) and then removing the account will result in the loss of the UI button to add a new contact. The button will not appear under Contacts App or the Contacts button under the Phone app.
  12. FIXED: Modifying the fields of an iCloud contact from an iOS device that was not the original source of the contact causes the contact’s photo to disappear on other iOS devices. The image is still there but it is not fetched properly.
  13. AirPlay
  14. Starting in iOS 5.0, video content in applications and websites are AirPlay-enabled by default.
  15. iOS 5.0 supports AirPlay of video via AV Foundation.
  16. The Apple TV screen saver may degrade mirroring performance over AirPlay. The screen saver can be disabled in Apple TV settings.
  17. Apple TV
  18. Apple TV Software beta enables users to mirror the contents of an iPad 2 to an Apple TV (2nd generation) using AirPlay. This beta software also enables Photo Stream on Apple TV so users can access photos stored in iCloud. Apple TV Software beta is being provided to test the latest AirPlay functionality with your iOS 5 apps and web sites. If you wish to install Apple TV Software beta on your device, you must first register your device UDID in the iOS Developer Program Portal.
  19. Assistant
  20. When signing in with a Classic MobileMe account via iOS 5.0 Setup Assistant, it offers iCloud Backup.
  21. Audio
  22. Using voice chat in iOS 5 requires setting the kAudioSessionMode_VoiceChat mode on the Audio Session, or setting the AVAudioSessionModeVoiceChat mode on the AVAudioSession object.
  23. In iOS 5 beta1, voice chat is currently not working on iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd generation devices.
  24. Bluetooth
  25. FIXED: When connected to Personal Hot Spot via Bluetooth, the internet connection for web browsing is not successful.
  26. CalDav
  27. FIXED: Despite turning off reminder sync with an iCloud account, editing in the reminders app displays the option to make a new reminder list under iCloud. By doing so, the list and to do items under the list will sync to other devices.
  28. NEW: After creating a recurring event locally on the device, the device stops syncing after hitting an error on merge. Removing and re-adding the account acts as workaround for this.
  29. Calendar
  30. FIXED: When making a change to calendar syncing, like having more than one account on the device and turning on or off one of the account's calendar syncing, changes may not show up on the calendar UI. To resolve this, kill the calendar app through app switcher and launch it again.
  31. NEW: All MobileMe calendars were duplicated after turning calendar syncing off and back on.
  32. NEW: If you launch or manually refresh Calendars on an iPad, your calendars might disappear and you will have to tap "Show All Calendars" to display them again.
  33. GameKit
  34. FIXED: In games that support “Turn-Based Matches” a player cannot end a match unless all players end the match.
  35. Match data for turn based matches is currently limited to 4 KB of data.
  36. In iOS 5.0, notifications for Game Center are off by default. To enable notifications go to Settings->Notifications->Game Center-> and change the Alert Style from None to Banners or Alerts.
  37. FIXED: Attempting to present a GKPeerPickerController object causes an iPhone 4 to dim and become 'modal', but the peer picker never appears.
  38. Graphics
  39. NEW: In the iOS 5 beta 2, the data type of the center property of GLKSkyboxEffect of the GLKit framework has been changed from GLfloat * to GLKVector3.
  40. FIXED: In the iOS 5 beta, the envColor property and the colorMaterialEnabled property of the GLKEffectPropertyTexture class (in the GLKit framework) are not operational.
  41. FIXED: In the iOS 5 beta, the constantColor property of the GLKBaseEffect class (in the GLKit framework) does not report the correct value in gdb.
  42. FIXED: In the iOS 5 beta, the GLKReflectionMapEffect class (in the GLKit framework) requires either the texture2d0 property, the texture2d1 property, or both configured with a valid texture name (for example, texture2d0.glName = myTextureName) in order to function properly. If one of these properties is not configured, you will get no reflection map rendering and a shader compilation error.
  43. If you don’t have a texture2d you intend to use with the GLKReflectionMapEffect class, the following code may be added as a workaround to augment the reflection map effect with a base texture:
  44. GLuint tempTexName;
  45. GLfloat texels[] = { 1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f, 1.0f };
  46. glGenTextures(1, &tempTexName);
  47. glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, tempTexName);
  48. glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER,
  49.      GL_LINEAR);
  50. glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, 1, 1, 0,
  51.      GL_RGBA, GL_FLOAT, texels);
  52. reflectionMapEffect.texture2d0.glName = tempTexName;
  53. FIXED: In the iOS 5 beta, disabling any of the three light parameters (light0, light1 or light2 ) of GLKBaseEffect does not work.
  54. Since the GLKReflectionMapEffect class inherits from GLKBaseEffect, the same behavior is observed for lights used with GLKReflectionMapEffect.
  55. iBooks
  56. iBooks 1.2.2 may fail to display some text or images in books. Please update to iBooks 1.3 in the App Store.
  57. FIXED: Newer PDFs added to iBooks will not be added to subsequent backups.
  58. iCloud Backup
  59. As this is beta software it is recommended that you do not use the iCloud services to store any critical data or information. If you enable iCloud Backup, automatic backup with iTunes when syncing will be disabled. We suggest you also manually back up your device with iTunes.
  60. In the iOS 5 beta, support for data protection in iCloud Backup is unavailable. Apps that have protected files will not have any of their data or metadata backed up as a result.
  61. NEW: After restoring, you may not be able to back up again because the device still thinks it's restoring. To workaround this issue try syncing apps or media that are missing form iTunes or try deleting your iCloud account and adding it back.
  62. NEW: If you delete your backup, the feature will be disabled but settings may still indicate that it is enabled and you will have to toggle the BackUp to Cloud switch in Settings.
  63. iCloud Storage
  64. During the iOS 5.0 beta period, any documents stored on the servers might be purged periodically before GM. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you do not store any critical documents or information on the servers.
  65. If your application is using the NSMetadataQuery class, you must set a predicate, even though the predicate itself is ignored.
  66. The Foundation framework doesn't include the team ID when looking for an app's mobile documents container. The Team ID must be included at the beginning of the identifier string passed to the URLForUbiquityContainerIdentifier: method.
  67. NEW: In this beta, the setSortDescriptors: method of NSMetadataQuery is not supported.
  68. NEW: In this beta, if you want to use iCloud, you have to manually specify various container identifiers (your application’s Display set) within an Entitlements file for both of your Mac OS X and iOS projects.
  69. NEW: There are issues using the Cloud Storage document API in conjunction with protected data which can lead to data corruption.
  70. NEW: In this beta, document-based applications cannot always detect when files change, move, or are deleted out from underneath them.
  71. NEW: In this beta, file presenters (objects that adopt the NSFilePresenter protocol) do not receive some of the messages that they're supposed to receive, especially:
  72. presentedItemDidChange
  73. presentedSubitemDidAppearAtURL:
  74. presentedSubitemDidChangeAtURL:
  75. You can workaround this by implementing the relinquishPresentedItemToWriter: method and checking to see if the writer actually wrote when your file presenter reacquires. You can also use FSEvents to observe file system changes
  76. NEW: In this beta, messages about changes to files in a directory are not getting delivered to objects that adopt the NSFilePresenter protocol.
  77. While reporting a bug related to the iCloud storage interfaces, please include the logs collected during your debugging session. To generate these logs, you must install a special debug profile on your device.
  78. The debug profile can be obtained from http://connect.apple.com. This profile enables the generation of debug logs that are needed to diagnose any problems using iCloud storage. The instructions to collect the logs are:
  79. Install the profile. (The easiest way to do this is to mail it to yourself and open the attachment on their device.)
  80. Reproduce the bug.
  81. Sync with iTunes to pull the logs off your device.
  82. Attach the logs to your bug report. You can find the logs in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/DiagnosticLogs.
  83. These logs can grow large quickly, so you should remove the profile after you have reproduced the problem and pulled the logs for the bug report.
  84. iMessage
  85. NEW: iMessage seed 2 will be unable to communicate with iMessage users on seed 1.
  86. FIXED: Swiping the iMessage on/off switch and the MMS messaging on/off switch in Settings crashes it. Just tapping or toggling does not crash settings.
  87. FIXED: In an iMessage conversation, video/audio attachments cannot be viewed in the transcript on either side of the conversation.
  88. iTunes
  89. The version of iTunes that comes with beta 2 cannot sync devices that have the beta 1 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:
  90. Sync any devices that have beta 1 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 1.
  91. Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with beta 2.
  92. Connect the device and install the beta 2 software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)
  93. After installing the beta 2 software, restore from your the backup you made in step 1.
  94. MMS
  95. NEW: Sending an MMS of large videos does not work.
  96. Photo Adjustments
  97. If you apply red-eye adjustments in iOS, and import your image into the iPhoto seed build, the red-eye adjustments will not appear on that image in iPhoto. As a result, subsequent syncing of your image back to the iOS device from iPhoto will not show the red-eye adjustments.
  98. Reminders
  99. NEW: The Reminders application does not send notifications for reminders that are based upon the entry (and/or exit) of a location if there is no date associated with the reminder.
  100. Settings
  101. NEW: The “Back Up Now” button is enabled without the backup data class being enabled for the account.
  102. NEW: If you bring up the keyboard of the terms in Settings->General->Software Update, you cannot dismiss it. You have to force quit Settings to get out.
  103. Springboard
  104. Push and local notifications for apps appear in the new Notification Center in iOS 5.0. Notification Center displays notifications that are considered "unread". In order to accommodate push and local notifications that have no "unread" status, developers can use their application badge count to trigger a clearing of notifications from Notification Center. When an application clears its badge count (by setting it to zero), iOS 5 will clear its notifications from Notification Center.
  105. Developers are strongly encouraged not to run or debug applications on the device prior to completing the device's setup assistant. This will lead to unexpected behavior and will be a prevented operation in a future release.
  106. UI Automation
  107. The play and record buttons in the Automation instrument script editor may not work properly after targeting an application that was launched by a trace session and has ended. They may also not work if you target an application that was suspended. If you run into this problem and it persists, you may need to close and reopen the trace document to get back into a functional state.
  108. When capturing actions into a script using the Automation instrument, interfaces with web views or table cells that contain a high number of off screen elements may take an extremely long time before returning with an expression.
  109. The lock() and unlock() functions of UIATarget have been replaced with the lockForDuration() function.
  110. Instruments overwrites the loaded automation script, even if another program is editing it.
  111. Starting iOS 5.0, beta 2 you can now trigger the execution of a UI Automation script on an iOS device from the host terminal by using the instruments tool. The command is:
  112. instruments -w -t
  113. UIKit
  114. NEW: Returning nil from the tableView:viewForHeaderInSection: method (or its footer equivalent) is no longer sufficient to hide a header. You must override tableView:heightForHeaderInSection: and return 0.0 to hide a header.
  115. In the iOS 5 beta, the UITableView class has two methods to move one cell from one row to another with defined parameters. These APIs are:
  116. moveSection:toSection:
  117. moveRowAtIndexPath:toIndexPath:
  118. Starting in iOS 5, the exclusiveTouch property of UIControl defaults to YES.
  119. Using the UIWebView class in Interface Builder, setting transparent background color is possible in iOS 5. Developers compiling against the new SDK can check their XIB for the UIWebView transparent setting.
  120. In the iOS 5 beta, the UINavigationBar, UIToolbar, and UITabBar implementations have changed so that the drawRect: method is not called on instances of these classes unless it is implemented in a subclass. Apps that have re-implemented drawRect: in a category on any of these classes will find that the drawRect: method isn't called. UIKit does link-checking to keep the method from being called in apps linked before iOS 5 but does not support this design on iOS 5 or later. Apps can either:
  121. Use the customization API for bars that in iOS 5 and later, which is the preferred way.
  122. Subclass UINavigationBar (or the other bar classes) and override drawRect: in the subclass.
  123. The indexPathForRow:inSection:, section, and row methods of NSIndexPath now use NSInteger instead of NSUInteger, so that these types match with methods defined on UITableView.
  124. There is a known issue with presenting a UIVideoEditorControllerobject where it doesn't show the selected video, which appears blank instead. In certain cases it may also crash.
  125. Touch events are not getting forwarded to the view in the cameraOverlayView property of UIImagePickerController.
  126. NEW: The imagePickerController:didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo: method of UIImagePickerController is not returning a URL to the video when recording is complete.
  127. NEW: When creating a new appointment in calendar app on a device using 24 hr clock, you cannot select an hour value greater than 12. The date-time picker value sets current weekday to be the same as previous day (e.g: a An appointment on Tuesday will be set as Monday).
  128. NEW: We have changed the behavior of scrollToRowAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated: such that UITableViewScrollPositionTop and UITableViewScrollPositionBottom now adjust for the top and bottom portions of the contentInset property.
  129. WebKit
  130. NEW: In iOS 5.0 beta 2, a new inherited CSS property, -webkit-overflow-scrolling, is available. The value touch allows the web developer to opt in to native-style scrolling in an overflow:scroll element. The default value for this property is auto.
  131. The WebKit framework has picked up a newer WebKit engine, which closely matches Safari 5.1. Some areas to be aware of with the new WebKit framework on iOS:
  132. There is a new HTML5-compliant parser.
  133. Text layout width may change slightly because word-rounding behavior now has floating-point-based precision.
  134. There is improved validation of the form field, which includes removing leading zeros and number formatting.
  135. Touch events are now supported on input fields.
  136. window.onerror is now supported.
  137. WiFi Syncing
  138. In iOS 5.0 beta 2, wireless syncing is now available for the Mac. It requires iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and OS X 10.6.8 or Lion. You will see an option to enable wireless syncing when you connect your device to iTunes with the USB cable. It is recommended you perform your initial sync with a cable after restoring your device.
  139. Wireless syncing is triggered automatically when the device is connected to power and on the same network as the paired computer. Or, you can manually trigger a sync from iTunes or from Settings -> General -> iTunes Sync (same network as paired computer required). Be sure your device is plugged into a power source when performing Wireless syncs.
  140. If you find issues with apps, media and/or photos synced to your device, you can reset then resync. From Settings -> General -> Reset, choose Erase all Content and Settings. Then reconnect to iTunes and sync again.
  141. In this beta, iTunes may incorrectly report Photos as "Other" in the capacity bar. Photo syncing otherwise works as expected.
  142. Xcode
  143. You are strongly encouraged to back up your device using iTunes before restoring.
  144. In some cases, Xcode 4.2 Organizer does not display a device that is in restore mode. As a workaround you can use iTunes to restore.
  145. On some desktop machines, Xcode's memory usage inflates incredibly fast while restoring a device or copying an IPSW. As a workaround use iTunes to restore.
  146. Sometimes Xcode 4.2 switches to a wrong scheme or run destination after an on-disk update.
  147. In this beta, crash logs (either unsymbolicated or symbolicated) do not appear in Xcode Organizer. To make them appear in the Xcode Organizer, you will have to rename the device.
  148. NEW: In iOS 5.0 beta 2, the iOS Simulator is not compatible with previous releases of the iCloud Developer Seed for OS X. It is highly recommended that you update to the latest iCloud Developer Seed to ensure compatibility.

Dissident and i0n1c on Banning Pirated Apps in iOS 5 Jailbreak

Stefan Esser, better known as “i0n1c,” has been receiving a lot of heat from the jailbreak community
as of late. Stefan is a prominent member of the jailbreak developer scene, and he was responsible for the untethered exploit that has been used for the iOS 4.3 jailbreak.
i0n1c recently introduced the idea of banning pirated apps in the iOS 5 jailbreak. He stated that if he were to release the jailbreak for iOS 5, he would consider placing a restriction on installing apps from the infamous ‘Installous‘ repo. Millions of jailbreakers use Installous to download pirated apps.
Hackulous, the group behind Installous, obviously feels very differently about i0n1c’s notion. The frontman for Hackulous, known as Dissident, has also shared his thoughts on the issue of banning cracked apps through a jailbreak.

TorrentFreak got some questions answered from both Dissident and i0n1c on this piracy issue that i0n1c raised with his tweet.
“The entire premise behind jailbreaking is that you’re able to do whatever you want with your device. It’s your device, you own it and you should be able to manipulate the software in any way that you like,” Hackulous admin Dissident told TorrentFreak.
“That doesn’t necessarily mean everything you do with it is legal, but that the manufacturer of the software and the hardware has no place in telling you how you use the device.”
The idea of placing restrictions on the user through a jailbreak seems counter to the very principle of jailbreaking. When you jailbreak, you are effectively removing Apple’s restrictions on your device. If a jailbreak introduced another set of restrictions, such as, the inability to pirate apps, wouldn’t that be hypocritical? The people at Hackulous definitely agree.
Dissident told TorrentFreak that i0n1c’s proposition of a DRM’d jailbreak would result in a lot of unhappy jailbreakers,
“Dissident told us this week that he believes i0n1c is a really talented guy but the idea that he should introduce new anti-Installous DRM is a significant one since at last count an estimated 11 million iDevice owners are using it. If they are suddenly unable to use Installous resources, they won’t be happy bunnies.”
The jailbreak community would be split into two camps: the pirates/freedom-from-restriction group, and the anti-piracy group.
“But just as Apple’s DRM gets broken despite their huge coding firepower, Dissident says that any efforts by i0n1c would be neutralized in the same fashion. Not only are several high-profile members of the jailbreaking scene said to be opposed to the suggestion of any new DRM, but Dissident warns that a small army of reverse engineers would appear, all dedicated to breaking any restrictions put in place at the jailbreak level.
While this would remove any obstacles put in place by i0n1c, Dissident says this type of situation would be most undesirable.”
In the end, it’s obvious that any DRM in a jailbreak would be countered, and a new, restriction-free jailbreak would eventually be introduced.
If that’s the way the Hackulous team feels, then what about i0n1c himself? TorrentFreak got Stefan to answer a few questions, too.
“Esser began by pointing us towards some of the abuse he’s been getting from some people in the jailbreaking community. These “nasty idiots”, as Esser describes them, certainly overstep the mark; disagreeing with someone’s stance can be achieved perfectly well without a flame war, but some don’t care much for sugar-coating. (It’s worth pointing out that Dissident does not engage in such behavior and was unfailingly polite throughout our discussions about Esser’s work.)
Esser went on to tell us that most of the people who have abused him (the “nasty idiots”) are into jailbreaking for one reason only – they want to pirate applications. In order to deal with their abuse it seems that Esser has developed an interesting payback tool – trolling.”
A recent example of this “trolling” would be the “elevat0r” project that i0n1c started. Because of i0n1c’s previous track record of releasing jailbreaks, the community thought that his new elevat0r project would be for an upcoming iPad 2 jailbreak. And as it turns out, it’s nothing of the sort.
Stefan also told TorrentFreak that, “When I am bored I think up tweets that will maximally annoy these people.”
As far as an iOS 5 jailbreak, i0n1c doesn’t seem too concerned with getting anything out to the public in the near future. He seems comfortable with where he’s at in the community.
“Esser told us that he is busy with “more important stuff” at the moment and that he is not planning to release any jailbreaks for a while. However, in keeping with his plan to annoy his detractors, there still might be a trick up his sleeve.
“In that line of thought, releasing a jailbreak that is only useful for people not into piracy would be a way to maximally annoy the bad people inside the jailbreaking community,” Esser told us with a palpable air of mischievousness. Or maybe seriousness, it’s hard to tell.”
TorrentFreak concluded their interview with i0n1c on a more optimistic note for the folks that side with Dissident.
“Esser eventually straightened his trollface and appeared to acknowledge the frailty of DRM and even the amusement to be had from it.
The ability to annoy in this way, he concedes, “..would only last for a while.”
As Stefan has become more vocal, it’s grown clearer that he may not have the jailbreak community’s interests as a whole at heart.
Personally, I agree with Stefan and Dissident. I believe that app piracy is wrong and should be killed, but I also believe that a jailbreak itself should not be the executor. As long as there are methods available, piracy will not go away. And, instead of trying to fight an uphill battle, people should start trying to find ways to adapt to that truth.

iPhone 5 / iOS 5 Coming on September 7 ?

As reported by International Business Times that next generation of iPhone (iPhone 4S / 5) will drop on
September 7th and coming along for the ride with it will be iOS 5.

mockup of iPhone 5/4S
iPhone adherents will seethe with anger if their phone doesn’t tally up to the competitions’ range of Android OS-based phones as early as possible. Apple must have found it difficult to contend with the allegation that most of the rumored iPhone 5 features are already on Android OS-based devices.
We are not sure form this as it's not official so far. But we have to say that earlier rumors from another sources pointed to the same date. Anyway let's wait and see.

iOS 5 Allows You to Install Multiple Apps Simultaneously Even On 3G

Here's another trick has been spotted by the guys over CultofMac in the newly Apple's iOS 5 beta 1.
You will be able to download and install more than one app at the same time, even on 3G.

In iOS 5's predecessors you were only able to download only one app at a time. In case you wanted to download another app, you will get a "Waiting..." message until the first app finished downloading

New in iOS 5: Grid Lines in Camera App

And we continue our exploration of new features in iOS 5.
Today we’re looking at a new feature in the camera app that brings grid lines to the screen display. The grid lines are very helpful for getting the shot straight (horizon, edges of buildings, etc, can be used to ensure the camera is leveled).
The grid lines can also be very helpful to “frame” the shot as the center is clearly visible, so offsetting any subject from the center (or not) becomes easier…
To turn grid lines On and Off, simply tap the “Options” menu in your camera (see image above). I believe this is a useful feature that could have made its way to iOS years ago.
How do you like that?

New GEVEY Ultra SIM iPhone 4 Unlock, No More Dialing 112

Apple may not want you to unlock your iPhone, but GEVEY sure does.
The company has just released a new solution to the iPhone 4 unlock problem. If you’re tired of waiting for a software unlock to come out, you may just want to keep reading.
We’ve talked about GEVEY SIM cards before, but the Ultra is supposed to be the end-all unlock solution for the iPhone 4. It works with every version of firmware from iOS 4.0 – iOS 5, as well as several basebands…
If you absolutely need to unlock your iPhone 4, it looks like GEVEY Ultra might just be the answer you’ve been looking for. Where UltraSn0w is limited to baseband 1.59, GEVEY Ultra works with 1.59, 2.10, 3.10.1 and 4.10.1.
Though GEVEY SIMs have been around for a while, there’s always been a question of their legality. Part of the GEVEY SIM unlocking procedure has always involved dialing 112, which is an emergency number and therefore illegal in some countries.
With GEVEY Ultra, users no longer need to dial 112 as part of the unlock activation. Another change in Ultra is that users need to have a jailbroken iPhone for it to work. In past versions, users did not need to be jailbroken to use GEVEY products.
Perhaps the most surprising detail is the price tag. While some unlock services can cost as much as $180.00, GEVEY Ultra will run you a mere $28 bucks from applenberry.
It doesn’t seem like the jailbreak community is anywhere close to releasing a software unlock for iPhone 4′s on newer basebands. So although we can’t recommend GEVEY Ultra until it’s been deemed safe and legal, it might be your best bet for right now.
Have tried the new GEVEY Ultra or currently use a GEVEY SIM? Thoughts?

iPad 2 Jailbreak Using JailbreakMe 3.0 Will Be Very Fast

The yet to be released JailbreakMe 3.0 jailbreak solution for iPad 2 will jailbreak iPad 2 very fast,
the developer Comex has confirmed via a tweet. Comex explains how he has made some changes that will greatly decrease the time it will take to jailbreak iPad 2.

Comex tweeted:
If you don't know, the stashing approach jailbreaks have been using for years-- Cydia's "Reorganizing Filesystem"-- involves moving some large directories from the small / partition into the large /var partition, then creating symlinks from the original to the new location. This both ensures that any additional stuff put in those directories by packages will end up in the /var partition, and frees up space on the / partition for files created outside of those directories. However, the process has some issues, like taking forever to do when you jailbreak (I am a bit fanatical about speed), pretty much requiring the jailbreak to reboot the system to ensure there aren't any running applications pointing to the old files (ditto about speed, I want a jailbreak to not even require a respring, as in star, but since star used stashing, some obscure things could cause issues before a reboot), and seriously confusing the sandbox code in the kernel (because each application has a sandbox with a list of allowed filenames, but after the symlink has moved files, the filenames no longer match), requiring that code to be patched (it needs to be patched anyway these days because tweaks have to run under the sandboxes of the applications they're hooking, but depend on accessing various directories; but it still feels good to get rid of a kludge).
With unionfs (which was saurik's idea originally), new files are created in the /var partition, and merged with files in the corresponding directories in the / partition, so no files need to be moved, no descriptors are invalidated, and I think the sandbox code won't notice what happened. It also opens the door for upgrading the base operating system without destroying the jailbreak files (although maybe iOS 5 delta updates will already allow this? I haven't looked at them yet).
I've wanted to do this since literally a year ago (that's the date of the nullfs checkin, since I was dumb and thought I wanted that instead of unionfs), but I never got around to making it work properly.
So, I just hope that I can get rid of the crashes my meddling with unionfs's code have introduced, and fix it for the iPad 2 (my dumped copies of iPad 2 kernels do not include symbols; I wrote a small BinDiff-like tool to copy over symbols from a kernel for another device, but it's not perfect) and that there aren't any performance issues.
Previously, the Chronic Dev Team has given an update on their iPad 2 jailbreak, which is due to be released in the coming weeks.

We'll update you as soon as JailbreakMe 3.0 goes live to jailbreak iPad 2.

Chronic Dev Team Gives Update On iPad 2 Jailbreak Release

Many of us are anxiously waiting for the iPad 2 jailbreak release.
Up till now, there has been no legitimate iPad 2 jailbreak, and no definite release date has been given for the iPad 2 jailbreak. However, Joshua Hill of the Chronic Dev Team has once again given an update on the state of iPad 2 jailbreak.

Joshua Hill, a.k.a @p0sixninja earlier tweeted the following:
We're still diligently working on both the iPad2 jailbreak & lots of other exciting projects. Sorry, & thanks for your patience!
We don't know what exactly are the lots of other exciting projects that Joshua Hill has tweeted about, but what interests us is the fact that the Chronic Dev Team is working very hard on the iPad 2 jailbreak and will most probably release it in the very near future.

Previously, it has been confirmed that Greenpois0n is not going to jailbreak iPad 2, rather the Chronic Dev Team is going to make an entirely new program for jailbreaking the iPad 2. It is possible that development of this new program has caused some delays in the iPad 2 jailbreak release.

iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak on iPhone 3GS with Sn0wBreeze Beta 2

iH8sn0w’s popular jailbreak tool for Windows, Sn0wBreeze,
has been updated with support for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak on the iPhone 3GS. iOS 5 is still in the Beta 1 stage, and Sn0wBreeze Beta 2 is the first method available for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak on the iPhone 3GS.
Thanks to the old bootrom on the 3GS, users can enjoy a fully untethered iOS 5 Beta 1 jailbreak with the newly released Sn0wBreeze update.
Sn0wBreeze is only available on Windows.
Sn0wBreeze was updated about a week ago with support for the iOS 5 Beta 1, and RedSn0w was also updated by the Dev Team with support for a tethered iOS 5 jailbreak. Most likely, RedSn0w will be updated soon for Windows and Mac with support for this untethered iPhone 3GS jailbreak now present in Sn0wBreeze.
Let us know how Sn0wBreeze Beta 2 works for your iPhone 3GS on the iOS 5 beta. Remember, untethered support does not yet exist for the iPhone 4.

TinyUmbrella 5 (Beta 1 support)

TinyUmbrella now supports 5.0b1 for all devices.
I've added a few nag messages to remind people to update their settings. "Request SHSH from Cydia" and "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" should be disabled by users as soon as possible especially if you are having issues saving your SHSH. Cydia is ramping down it's proxy service and will eventually offer it no more. It will continue to host SHSHs and I'm working on the new TinyUmbrella which will integrate with those new features.

I'll post updates here and on twitter.

Also note that if you preserve your baseband with TinyUmbrella and go to 5.0b1, you will not be able to 'fixrecovery' until I am able to update it. Sorry - I just don't have time to fix it at this moment.

Sn0wbreeze Updated to 2.8b1, Now Supports iOS 5 Jailbreak

Apple announced a major software update for iDevices last week, iOS 5.
The new firmware will introduce over 200 new features in iOS, and is expected to seriously impact the jailbreak community.
But jailbreakers haven’t skipped a beat since the beta version of iOS 5 rolled out last Monday. Within 24 hours of the release, jailbreak software was updated to support the new firmware. Now you can add Sn0wbreeze to that list of iOS 5 compatible tools…
As with the RedSn0w update, the Sn0wbreeze jailbreak for iOS 5 beta is only available in tethered form. This means you’ll need to be by a computer during reboots, as you’ll essentially have to re-jailbreak each time the device restarts.
This shouldn’t be too big of deal for the time being though, since the only ones who are supposed to have copies of iOS 5 are developers (and even they’re not really supposed to be using it on their main device).
But nevertheless, folks who are running the beta and are looking for a way to jailbreak it, check out Sn0wbreeze. The easy to use software works with all iOS 5 compatible devices, except the iPad 2 of course, and enables you to play with new tweaks like UISettings.
Sn0wbreeze 2.8b1 is for Windows only and can be downloaded here.

Dev Team Releases RedSn0w 0.9.8b1 for Windows [iOS 5 Jailbreak]

A couple days ago, the Dev Team released the first jailbreak for iOS 5 beta 1, via RedSn0w 0.9.8b1,
a tool that was Mac only until today. Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd tweeted instants ago that RedSn0w 0.9.8b1 is now also compatible with Windows.
Like we mentioned when we first reported about this latest version of RedSn0w, jailbreaking iOS 5 is recommended for developers only as many jailbreak apps are “broken” and do not work properly for the time being…
If you’re still tempted to have a glimpse at the new awesome jailbreak apps that are being developed for iOS 5, then go ahead, but at least you’ve been warned. Of course, you will need to already be running iOS 5 beta 1, and then use RedSn0w to jailbreak.
This jailbreak will work with all devices that can run iOS 5 except for the iPad 2. We hear Comex might revive JailbreakMe and come back with an iPad 2 jailbreak so don’t lose hope to see Cydia running soon on this device.

PhoneItiPad Turns Your 3G-Equipped iPad into a Smartphone

There’s always been an argument that the 3G-equipped iPads are just 9.7″ iPhones without a calling plan.
While VoIP apps, such as Skype, can indeed turn iPads into a phone of sorts, there’s never been a way to make proper cellular calls using Apple’s tablets. Until now.
Enter a new jailbreak app courtesy of iPhoneIslam, the same guys who brought us FaceIt3GS – an app that allows iPhone 3GS users to get in on the FaceTime bandwagon.
Called PhoneItiPad, this jailbreak tweak allows owners of the iPad 3G to make telephone calls using their cellular connection just like an iPhone, making the iPad the world’s largest phone…
Available for $19.99 from the apps.iphoneislam.com repository in Cydia, PhoneItiPad will require users to hand over their device’s ICCID – a unique identifier for mobile cellular devices. Some may understandably be apprehensive about handing over such a unique and identifiable number, but it’s a necessity if you really must make calls from a near 10″ phone, writes RedmondPie.

So how do you get your hands on PhoneItiPad?
  1. Go to the iPhoneIslam website to activate your ICCID in order to make the tweak work once installed.
  2. Open Cydia and point it to the iPhoneIslam repository - apps.iphoneislam.com.
  3. After installation, your iPad should be able to make and receive telephone calls just like an iPhone.
Unfortunately, this particular tweak isn’t currently compatible with the iOS 5 beta, so keep that in mind before you hand over your money for PhoneItiPad.
Have you tried PhoneItiPad yet? How well does it work? And do you believe that hefty $19.99 price tag is worth it? Let us know your thoughts on the tweak in the comments below!

Unlocked iPhones Headed to U.S. Apple Stores This Week?

Apple could start selling unlocked iPhones in its retail stores, starting this Wednesday.
According to famed jailbreak developer, Chronic, Apple retail is gearing up to offer factory unlocked iPhones in U.S. locations. If Chronic’s sources are correct, travelers and SIM-swappers should be very happy with this news.
This would be the first time that Apple offered factory unlocked iPhones in the U.S. Customers in countries like Canada and Hong Kong have already been able to purchase carrier-unlocked iPhones.
Chronic originally got this leak confused with a possible MacBook Air refresh, but his sources (including MacRumors) have confirmed the part numbers in question to be iPhone 4 models.

Electronista,
“The model numbers, MC603, MC604, MC605, and MC606, all line up with the GSM versions sold abroad but without the regional suffixes that normally apply to international unlocked phones, such as B for Britain or C for Canada.”
Nothing has been said specifically about the CDMA iPhone on Verizon, but the limited availability of CDMA overseas makes that idea seem pretty slim.
Thanks to the end of Apple’s exclusive agreement with AT&T, Apple is no longer restricted with this type of decision. As TiPB points out, T-Mobile users shouldn’t get too excited. These unlocked iPhones would most likely have no support for T-Mobile’s 3G network frequencies in the U.S.
In case you’re confused, buying an “unlocked” iPhone is not the same thing as buying an iPhone without a carrier contract. An unlocked device means that you are not restricted to one carrier, and that SIM cards can be interchanged in the device for international travel.
If these unlocked devices do become available in Apple stores this Wednesday, expect the price to range to be about $600-$700. And unless you’re really itching for an unlocked iPhone 4, wait a couple months for Apple to unveil the next gen iPhone.
