Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 released with iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak support [updated]

Just a few minutes ago, iH8sn0w released Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5
with iOS 5.1.1 untether support in tow. Along with the new jailbreak support, there are a few other notable changes worth pointing out as well.
Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 supports all devices (below A5) that are capable of running iOS 5.1.1. This excludes the A5(X) powered iPad 3, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, along with the Apple TV 3 — which is currently not jailbreakable with any tool.
Check inside for a full rundown on what you can expect from this Windows-based jailbreak staple, along with the download link…
We should also note that Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5 does support the recently released 5.1.1/9B208 update for the iPhone 4 GSM.
If you want to jailbreak the iPad 3, iPad 2, or iPhone 4S, iH8sn0w suggests that you stick with the Absinthe tool from the Chronic Dev Team.
Here are the full list of release notes for Sn0wBreeze 2.9.5:
iPhone 4 (GSM) & Apple’s 5.1.1/9B208 Update:
This evening, Apple appears to have (surprisingly) released 5.1.1/9B208 for the iPhone 4 (GSM) exclusively. Although there isn’t much of a difference it was enough to make the 9B206 untether payload for the iPhone 4 (GSM) invalidate on 9B208. Until pod2g/planetbeing build an untether payload for this build, 9B208 support is included.
A5(X) Support?:
As stated many times in the past, sn0wbreeze cannot be updated to work on A5(X) devices until a low level exploit in DFU or iBoot is found and made public. Therefore, A5(X) users will have to rely on using the lovely absinthe.
A5(X) Baseband Preservation/Hacktivation?
For those running A5(X) devices and need to preserve your baseband, there is nothing you can do at the moment. For those wanting to hacktivate, the only advice I can give is to buy the carrier’s SIM (the one its locked to obviously) on ebay. The SIM does not have to be active with the carrier to activate the phone.

Absinthe 2.0.2 has arrived!

After copious amounts of work and many sleepless nights
Absinthe 2.0 is finally here to jailbreak your device. This release has been a large collaborative effort between Chronic-Dev Team and iPhone Dev Teams (Jailbreak Dream Team)
This jailbreak supports firmware 5.1.1 ONLY and is again one of the most easiest jailbreaks to use (so easy your grandma could do it ;D)

Absinthe 2.0 supports the following devices:

iPad1,1 – 2,1 – 2,2 – 2,3 – 3,1 – 3,2 – 3,3
iPhone2,1 – 3,1 – 3,3 – 4,1
iPod3,1 – 4,1
(Support for iPad2,4 will be added at a later date)

How To Use Absinthe 2.0:

1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.
2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.
4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.
5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)
6. Thanks for using Absinthe, enjoy your jailbroken iDevice! :D

iPhone 5 Screen Size

Screens are getting bigger on smartphones and this is no small part thanks to the Android manufactures who seem to go by the philosophy - bigger is better, even though huge screen (5 inches, really?) aren't that needed. If you really have a need for so many different medias such as video, then why not get a tablet? Settling for some sort of in between option is never a good idea in life, so why settle for it when it comes to your devices? Even so, Apple is losing market share as possible buyers choose other options over their iPhone because of the screen size. This time around, it seems that Apple wants to put their foot down and get back on the leader role on market.
Leaked render of the possible iPhone 5 screen
For this reason, the old 3.5 inch screen size may soon be replaced with a 4.6 inch screen. A huge change to Apple's legacy and what Steve Jobs used to tell us? Perhaps, but maybe this new change is better. Fans of Apple's products will probably not mind the bigger screen sizes, and if they stated their disappointment then Apple could easily come up with a 3.5 inch model of the product as well. One of the more interesting things is that the new screen size would certainly bring a brand new design that would step away from the classic minimalism design of the iPhone we are used to. So what will the iPhone 5 look like, any ideas? Well, only a few...

What Users Think of the iPhone 5 Screen Size

The general opinion is that while it there isn't any harm to getting a larger screen, it really isn't that big of deal to get it in the first place. A majority of users, however, do wish to go for a 4 inch screen and think the iPhone 5 should certainly feature it. Those who don't want a 4 to 4.6 inches screen size should still be able to get the smaller version, it's not rocket science Apple! But when you think about it, the 4 inch screen does make a lot of sense. It will give you more options and still not be too bulky or large. Fans of the older 3.5 inch size would easily get used to it and the transition wouldn't be so hard.

Another important side note should be the design, the iPhone 4S really looked like the previous model and didn't bring anything new to the distinguish it from the others. The iPhone 5 must come with a new and improved design with more variety, but still keep to its old elegant and familiar tradition.

What do you think? What size do you want the phone to have?

Seas0nPass 0.8.4 released with support for iOS 5.0.1 (5.1.1)

Today has been a great day for jailbreakers.
Earlier this morning we saw the release of RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 bring the ability to downgrade the firmware of A5 devices, and now a new version of Seas0nPass has become available.
For those who aren’t familiar with the software, Seas0nPass is essentially the equivalent of RedSn0w for the Apple TV. And with version 0.8.4, you can now jailbreak your second-generation ATV on the latest firmware…
The folks at FireCore made the announcement:
“Seas0nPass 0.8.4 released. Adds [tethered] support for ver. 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) on ATV2. ATV3 update still in progress.”
For those wondering, we don’t expect to see a jailbreak for the ATV3 anytime soon. Yesterday, Pod2g explicitly said that his hack would not work on Apple’s latest set top box. And last month, Bile admitted that jailbreaking the new device would be an “uphill battle” without an A5 bootrom exploit.
At any rate, second-gen ATV owners can use the new version of Seas0nPass to jailbreak the latest firmware. As always, you can pick up the software from our Downloads page.
If you’re still trying to find a good reason to hack your Apple TV, be sure to check out our page on the benefits of jailbreaking.

How to jailbreak the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with RedSn0w

Now that a method exists for downgrading A5 devices,
a greater number of folks will be looking for an easy solution to jailbreak their devices.
While the Absinthe jailbreak tool still works, RedSn0w may be more desirable to you due to its all encompassing nature.
For that reason we’ve put together a handy guide that shows you how to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 using RedSn0w 0.9.11b1…
Note: You must be on iOS 5.0.1 to use this tutorial. You can downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 if you have your SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.0.1. See our iOS 5.0.1 downgrade tutorial for more details.
Step 1: Connect your A5 device to your computer and run RedSn0w 0.9.11b1.
Step 2: Click jailbreak, and you will see an info window appear.
Step 3: On your iPhone you will notice a new profile window. Tap Install > Install Now > Next (no password) > Done.
Step 4: You will see another info window via RedSn0w.
Step 5: Enable the VPN option in Settings and the jailbreak will be triggered.
Step 6: You may notice VPN errors, these can be ignored. The device will reboot, and once it reboots you will notice Cydia on your Home screen.
That’s it! There’s no DFU mode involved or anything like that, so this is one of the easiest jailbreaks to accomplish. It works pretty much the same as the Absinthe jailbreak, but I found RedSn0w’s Corona implementation a little more reliable than Absinthe. This was performed on a Windows machine, but it works exactly the same on a Mac.
Has it worked for you? What have you found?

How to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or new iPad with RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 [Video]

It’s finally here folks, the official downgrade tool for A5 devices!

Indeed, you can now downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or new iPad (iPad 3) with the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.11b1. Downgrading will allow you to perform an untethered jailbreak on your iPhone 4S, or iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 firmware.
Check out our tutorial for the step-by-step downgrade instructions inside…
Note: You must have your SHSH blobs for iOS 5.0.1 either stored locally by means of TinyUmbrella, etc., or Cydia must have your 5.0.1 blobs for this downgrade to work successfully.
Step 1: Download the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 from our downloads page.
Step 2: Download the latest firmware (5.1.1) for your device from our downloads page, along with the 5.0.1 firmware.
Step 3: Place your device into DFU mode.
Step 4: Run RedSn0w 0.9.11b1, and make sure RedSn0w detects your device in DFU mode. Navigate to Extras > Even more > Restore and click IPSW under the IPSW section. RedSn0w will then ask you for your iOS 5.0.1 IPSW. Once you locate iOS 5.0.1, RedSn0w will ask your for the latest firmware (iOS 5.1.1).
Step 5: Once both firmwares have been validated, it’s time to locate your saved SHSH blobs. If you’ve jailbroken your device before, you should have those available on Cydia, and therefore you can use the Remote option. If you’ve never jailbroken your device before, but you saved your SHSH blobs with a tool like TinyUmbrella, then choose Local and browse your computer for your blobs. We’d recommend clicking the Remote option first.
Step 6: Once your blobs have been verified, there is nothing left for you to do, just let RedSn0w execute the full process. First RedSn0w will install a hacked version of the latest firmware (iOS 5.1.1), and then it will downgrade your firmware to iOS 5.0.1.
Step 7: Upon downgrading successfully you will be presented with a success message. Now all you have to do is setup your device, and verify that you are now on iOS 5.0.1 via Settings > General > About on your device.

What’s Next?

Most people will want to jailbreak their newly downgraded device. If you’re using an A5 device like the iPad 2, or iPhone 4S, you can now jailbreak using Corona-A5. You can do this directly from RedSn0w. We will have a tutorial that shows you how to jailbreak your A5 device using RedSn0w in the near future. Until then, you can always use a tool like Absinthe to jailbreak as well.
Were you able to downgrade successfully? Have any tips or tricks? Please share them below!
Important: If you rely on a software unlock or SIM interposer for your iPhone, beware! This method will update your baseband, and you could permanently lose your unlock.

pod2g shows off his new iPad untethered jailbreak on video

And the good news just keeps rolling in… hot of the heels of pod2g’s
new iPad (iPad 3) untethered jailbreak video, he’s now confirming that his jailbreak works with Apple’s newly released iOS 5.1.1 firmware as well.

This means that anyone who buys a new iPad, iPhone 4S, or iPad 2 with 5.1.1 pre-installed, or anyone who accidentally updated to iOS 5.1.1 without saving their SHSH blobs will still be able to jailbreak once the tool is released…
We have a good feeling that the new jailbreak will be touching down soon. According to pod2g, the jailbreak will come bundled in a tool created by the Chronic Dev Team.
So even if you don’t plan on downgrading your A5 device like we showed you how to do earlier, you can still jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.1 once the new jailbreak is released.
What do you think?
