Dev Team Working on iTunes Alternative for Jailbreakers?

Could it really be true? After years of complaints from disgruntled iTunes users, could the Dev Team be working on an iTunes replacement for the jailbreak community?

While it does seem too good to be true, there is a definite chance that jailbreakers will have their own iTunes-like app that works specifically for jailbroken iDevices. A famous jailbreak developer has raised speculation that the Dev Team is in fact working on an alternative for iTunes.
Joshua Hill, or P0sixninja, is a member of the Dev Team and a prominent figure in the jailbreak community. A series of tweets between he and Nick Hoggan reveal that the Dev Team is in early development for their very own iTunes replacement.
Nick asked P0sixninja if the Dev Team was working on an iTunes alternative, and P0sixninja responded with a simple, “yes, soon.”

Nick then responded to P0sixninja’s tweet with a question about the projected release of an iTunes replacement. P0sixninja said that the project is under, “heavy development.”

So, it appears that an iTunes replacement from the Dev Team won’t be ready for prime time until this fall at the earliest. (Perhaps its release will be in conjunction with the release of Apple’s OS X Lion?)
In another corner of the jailbreak community, Jay “saurik” Freeman has been teasing the notion of a Mac version of Cydia for quite some time. Not much news has been released about Cydia for Mac, but perhaps saurik and the Dev Team will team up for an all-in-one jailbreak replacement for iTunes. (We all can dream, right?)
In case you’re still wondering, an iTunes replacement for the jailbreak community would mean several things. Foremost, an “iTunes for jailbreakers” would mean less hassle in upgrading and downgrading jailbroken firmwares (in conjunction with jailbreak tools like PwnageTool).
If an iTunes-like app was made with jailbroken devices in mind, you would ideally be able to manage Cydia apps, tweaks, etc. like iTunes currently manages App Store apps.
There’s a good chance that the Dev Team develepors will also include popular feature requests, such as, the ability to drag media off any iDevice or remove the need for authentication when syncing with multiple computers.
We must clarify that this is all speculation at this point. No real facts have been released about an iTunes replacement for jailbreakers.
In the meantime, what would you like to see out of an iTunes alternative from the Dev Team? Better support for custom IPSW restores? Built in SSH navigation? We’re curious as to how such an app would be named. (iPWN?)

Ultrasn0w 1.3 May Also Support iPhone 4 Baseband 04.10.01 – [Confirmed By MuscleNerd]

This morning we have informed you that the iPhone Dev Team will be releasing an updated version of Ultrasn0w 1.3 which will be capable of unlocking iPhone 4 with baseband 02.10 & 03.10 (iOS 4.1 & iOS 4.2.1).
As we have mentioned our previous post, there is a possibility of Ultrasn0w 1.2 supporting iPhone 4 baseband 04.10.1 (iOS 4.3b3) also.
This is now confirmed by @MuscleNerd, the core member of the iPhone Dev Team. It seems like there are vulnerable commands in baseband 04.10.01 (iOS 4.3b3) and they are working on invoking them. That means, iPhone 4 with baseband 04.10.01 is possible. But, its not confirmed.
@MuscleNerd – Current i4 unlock goal includes til 04.10.01 (4.3b3). Very weird situation…vuln cmds are there, trying to invoke them)
Now, it will be interesting to see if the final version of iOS 4.3 carries the baseband as iOS 4.3b3 or not. Anyway, I strongly recommend you to stay away from iOS 4.3, if you relay on unlock. We will keep you posted on how to update your iPhone to iOS 4.3 while preserving your baseband.
So, currently we can confirm that Ultrasn0w 1.3 will support iPhone 4 with baseband 02.10 & 03.10 (iOS 4.1 & iOS 4.2.1) and possiblely 04.10.01 (Which is yet to confirm). The iPhone Dev Team is planning to release Ultrasn0w 1.3 in a week or two after the release of the Final version of iOS 4.3 (Release on March 2nd, 2011). So stay tuned..
For iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS users, there is no unlock news for you. For now, all you can do is, update your baseband to iPad baseband 06.15 and use the current version of Ultrasn0w to unlock. Rumor has that, the iPhone Dev Team is working on a tool, with which you can downgrade your baseband. But there is no ETA on it.

iPad 2 may also comes in white?

Though Apple hasn’t released a white iPhone 4, there's a big chance that Apple may announce iPad 2 in both black and white colors.
iFixYouri discovered a piece of iPad 2. This part comes from Shenzhen City in China, where many of Apple’s products are assembled.

If you look closely to the part above, you'll notice a big hole for what's expect to be Facetime camera. Not only that, they also showed the same digitizer above but in black. So Apple is widely expected to launch both black and white models of second-generation iPad. We're few days away from the launch, let's wait and see.

Apple working on Android-like gesture-based lock screen for iOS

Apple intelligence 9to5mac claims that Apple is working on a new Android-like gestures based lock screen for iOS devices.
This new type of lock screen is already being tested internally.

The new lock screen system is the same as the one Google Android uses. The user sets up a pattern and needs to input that same pattern in, instead of a password or a four number code.

There's no official word from Apple if it's planning to push it in the next iOS update or in the future. More screenshots below:

Update on iPhone 4 Unlock on Baseband 3.10.01 and 2.10.04

Its been a while since we last heard or read anything on the upcoming iPhone 4 unlock for 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 basebands.
MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has already confirmed that unlock for iPhone 4 on newer basebands wont be released until Apple drops iOS 4.3 to public.

Now that iOS 4.3 is expected to drop soon, The iPhone Baseband hacker Sherif Hashim has provided an update of sorts, on the upcoming Ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 4. According to him, the baseband crash which he has found is confirmed to be working on both the new basebands, that is: 3.10.01 and 2.10.04.

VaMpYrE7: @sherif_hashim Hi Sherif, I dont wanna ask about an ETA but I just wanna know if uve found an exploit for bb 03.10.01 or not, w8ng patiently
Sherif_Hashim: @VaMpYrE7 the one I found is working for both
Don’t expect the unlock to drop right after iOS 4.3 is public. iPhone Dev Team will require at least a week or two for all the standard testing on the final iOS 4.3 code before releasing the updated Ultrasn0w unlock to public.

Also, in November last year, The iPhone Dev-Team released an Ultrasn0w update which enabled iPhone 3G and 3GS users to unlock their devices on iOS 4.2.1 by permanently (for now) upgrading it to iPad’s baseband 06.15.00. Rumor has it that there is soon going to be a way for iPhone 3G and 3GS users to downgrade the baseband back to the original 05.15.04 which ships with iOS 4.2.1 for these older devices.
We will have more on it as soon as we get more information on this. Stay tuned for that!

Leaked Panel Lends Credence to Larger Screen and Thinner Bezel For iPhone 5

Ladies and gentlemen, it seems that’s it’s very likely that the iPhone 5 will be bigger, faster, stronger.

Right on the heels of rumors that the iPhone 5 will feature a bigger screen, what appears to be the digitizer for Apple’s next generation phone has leaked into the wild.
The leaked part showcases what is obviously a slimmed down bezel that would allow for increased screen size. Earlier rumors suggested that the screen size would increase by half-an-inch to 4 inches, and this new leaked part certainly lends evidence to that…

Like clockwork, the part appeared on a website for Chinese reseller iDeals China. It’s easy to see from the leaked photo that the bezel has been reduced significantly, especially on the sides of the phone. The top bezel has also been reduced.
While many worry that the increased screen size means added bulk, that’s not necessarily true. The iPhone 4′s bezel is so large that a reduction could mean a bigger screen while maintaining the physical size of the device. Case in point, check out our measurements below of the iPhone 4:

That’s not to say that the physical size won’t be a bit bigger, but I wouldn’t expect a huge jump in size just because the screen was bumped up half-an-inch.
Among the major changes to the size of the device comes rumors that the next iPhone will also pack 4G capabilities, built in SIM cards, and an upgraded processor; possibly the A5 chip that the iPad 2 is supposedly packing.
Be sure to check out our iPhone 5 rumor roundup for all of the latest juicy iPhone 5 rumors.
Looks like this may be the real deal folks. Are you excited at the prospect of a larger screen?

Play PS3 Games on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad with everyAir

New hackers and developers called "pandaelf" was able to find a way to play PS3 Games on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
With a little wrangling of simple hardware and everyAir, the developers have successfully made it possible to play PS3 games on any iOS device.

Q&A:
=========================

Q: What's the overall picture for how this works?
A: The trick is to connect a capture device and a USB mouse/keyboard device to the PS3. The capture device sends video data to the PC, and the USB keyboard/mouse sends the button presses. On the PC itself, you run a custom build of everyAir which understands custom gestures and pipes the input to the PC which then sends it to the PS3 via the input interpreter.

Q: What were some of the hurdles?
A: There are two problems to solve: sending the video signal to the iOS device and sending back input from the iOS device. Sending the video signal is solved by using an off the shelf capture device, and then sending back the input is a combination of a custom build of everyAir with an off the shelf mouse/keyboard device that connects to the PS3.

Q: How do you send input to the PS3?
A: Using one of those USB Keyboard/Mouse devices. For example, Eagle Eye (search for it on Amazon).

Q: How do you get the video signal from the PS3 to the iOS device?
A: We do this by using an off the shelf capture device. The capture device connects to the PC, TV, and to the PS3. The result is that a livestream of the PS3's video signal ends up on the PC.

Q: How do you connect to the PC from the iOS device?
A: Using everyAir - our remote desktop application.

Q: How does everyAir understand the game gestures?
A: We're using a custom build of everyAir, and it's hardcoded to understand these gestures. Additionally, it knows how to pipe input to the mouse/kb device in a way that it expects.

Q: Will this be publicly available?
A: We plan to release a fully customizable version at some point in the future.

As you read on the above quotation, till now there is no ETA for this cool idea, as usual I will let you informed with any updates, stay tuned.

First test video for Windows XP on iPod touch 2G.
As you can see, everything works fine, but the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) hit's once you get logged in.Hopefully more progress will be made, so we can actually use Windows on our iPhone and iPod touch.

NoVoiceMail Nixes Your iPhone’s Voicemail Button

Who in their right mind would want to get rid of their voicemail button? Apparently, at least a few people, that’s who.

That’s because a new jailbreak tweak recently showed up on the Cydia store entitled NoVoiceMail, and I’m betting some of you have already downloaded it.
What a perfect tweak for those of you who never check their voicemail, for those of you who never return Auntie May’s repeated phone calls…

NoVoiceMail is about as simple as it gets. Once you install it, voila; the voicemail button in your Phone.app just got awfully good at playing hide and seek.
And that’s pretty much the full gist of it. The downside of this tweak is that it effectively eliminates your visual voicemail capabilities if your phone provider offers such a feature.
The only way to check your voicemail with NoVoiceMail installed is to go the old route of dialing your own phone number, entering your passcode, etc.
Although that can be pretty annoying in itself, chances are if you’re willing to install NoVoiceMail, you’re probably not too concerned with checking it anyway.
If you’re rocking a jailbroken iPhone, NoVoiceMail can be downloaded for free on Cydia.

Apple Set To Present FaceTime HD, Thunder Bolt I/O?

Specs for the upcoming MacBook Pro update seem to have been leaked online and among them are FaceTime HD and what just might be Apple’s name for the 10Gbps LightPeak port — ThunderBolt I/O.

Apple used to call MacBook cameras iSight, but since FaceTime launched on iPhone and iPod touch they’ve taken that name back to the Mac. If the 2011 MacBooks get 720p HD FaceTime cameras is that something we’ll see on iOS as well?

Intel is set to have a LightPeak event on Thursday, also Steve Jobs’ birthday and the date rumored for the MacBook Pro refresh. If the pictures are to be believed, Apple will be calling their LightPeak implementation ThunderBolt… which is also the name of the about-to-be-released HTC LTE Android phone on Verizon. If this all proves to be true, here’s also hoping iOS gets ThunderBolt this year. Yes, small amounts of data should absolutely go wireless but for those occasions when you need to tether and transfer large amounts of data — a bunch of movies, large navigation apps, big games, etc. — after a restore, doing it in a few seconds would be huge.

Anyone else want FaceTime HD and ThuderBolt on their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch?

Geohot Interviewed Again Over Sony Lawsuit

In case you’ve been too busy playing on your PS3, renowned iPhone hacker George “Geohot” Hotz is in the middle of a heated lawsuit with Sony.
Geohot “jailbroke” the Sony PS3 and circumvented Sony’s DRM. The ramification of his exploit is that Sony is now suing Geohot for “encouraging privacy” on their platform.
Geohot has done another interview on The Alyona Show in which he addresses the issues with the Sony debate and clarifies his stance on the subject. Check out the video after the break.

Geohot has been very vocal of his opinions on how Sony responded to his hack. He appeared on G4′s Attack of the Show in an interview about the Sony issue, and he even made a rap video about the situation.
Hotz recently asked for donations from the community towards his legal fees. The first round of donations was successful, and we’re sure Geohot will continue to receive support from his followers in his battle for consumer rights.
How do you feel about Geohot’s message? Do you support his actions?

Last Minute Engineering Issues Led Apple To Pull Retina Display From iPad 2

According to Engaget, an "engineering issues" have led Apple to make last-minute design changes to iPad 2, these changes will cause to launch iPad 2 which scheduled to see the light by March 2nd without a Retina Display :(

What's the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren't crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague "engineering issues" which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour. It's worth noting once again that these sources have been dead right on specific Apple plans and specifications for unannounced products in the past, and we have no reason to believe these changes are due to anything more than legitimate engineering decisions made close to launch.
According to the floating rumors, it's expected to see a thinner iPad, 512MB RAM, more powerful CPU with A5 processor, front camera and more. In the same event, it's rumored to see a preview for iOS 5 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and releasing for iOS 4.3 GM (Gold Master).

‘Undeletable Apps’ Keeps Your iPhone Apps Secure

Who would dare place a highly configured iPhone into the hands of a 5 year old? You’re liable to come back and see half of your apps deleted.

But if you had Undeletable Apps — A jailbreak tweak for the iPhone — you’d be able to rest easy knowing that your apps were there to stay.
That’s because Undeletable Apps prevents you from deleting your apps, even when in jiggle mode. How does it do this? Check inside for the full lowdown.

This is a simple jailbreak tweak with a magnificent outcome. Basically, Undeletable Apps removes the ‘x’ icon from your apps when they are in jiggle mode, protecting them from deletion.
Since jailbreak apps and stock iPhone apps like the clock and weather can’t be deleted anyway, this only applies to apps you purchased in the App Store.
The only entities that aren’t protected by this tweak are Safari shortcuts; those can still be deleted regardless as you can see in the screenshot above.
If there’s one thing I wish this app had, it would be a settings section to pick and choose which apps you wanted to protect. Almost like designating a franchise player on your favorite football team.
Other than that, there’s not much else to complain about here, especially since this tweak is free for jailbroken iPhones on the Cydia store.

Untethered Exploit For iOS 4.3 To Be Released After Next Week.

Just a little while ago, we have informed you that Apple has finalized the code for iOS 4.3 and is expected to release it next week – We can take this as a confirmed news.
Once iOS 4.3 is released, all jailbreakers will be looking for a jailbreaking tool to jailbreak their iOS device running iOS 4.3.
Few hours ago, Stefan Esser aka @i0n1c tipped us that, the man/team behind @SecureTips will release a Untethered Exploit for iOS 4.3 after next week. For those who dont know Stefan Esser, he is the brain behind Antid0te. Antid0te is a tool, which adds Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) to jailbroken iOS Device to make to more secure.
I heard @securetips will release a iOS 4.3 untether exploit after next weekend. Follow him for news.
The only reason for us to believe that there is something cooking at @Securetips is that, its referred by @i0n1c. Other than that, we dont have any way to authenticate this news. Looking at @Securetips tweets, it looks like the person behind it seems to be knowledgeable. So, we never know.. Stay tuned..
Update #1 – Just a little while ago, @Securetips tweeted that they won’t be releasing the 4.3 untethered exploit. They believe that keeping the vulnerability secret is the best possible defense.
@i0n1c Sorry, but we won’t release the 4.3 untether exploit. We believe that keeping the vulnerability secret is the best possible defense.
Update#2 – @securetips say´s Hint: our iOS 4.3 untether exploit is related to recent changes in the kSec/SecPolicy subsystem. No other information will be released.

MyGreatFest Will Be The World’s First iDevice/Jailbreak Convention

MyGreatFest is going to be the world’s first jailbreak and iCommunity convention. The event will take place on September 17, 2011 in London, UK.

The conference is still being organized, but the MyGreatFest team promises that their convention will be an educational and fun experience for any iDevice user. They already have the one and only Jay “saurik” Freeman confirmed as a keynote speaker for the convention (he invented jailbreaking). So, we know they mean business.
The MyGreatFest team explains their event,
“The MyGreatFest event is set to be the worlds first iCommunity and Jailbreak convention ever held and is the brought to you by the founder, Craig Fox, aka @flawlessfox.  Craig has assembled a dedicated, knowledgeable team from all walks of life who all share the same passion and love of their iDevice(s).
The cynic in you might be thinking, “So this is just a bunch of tech geeks getting together to look at their beloved iPhones”.  Well rest assured, it’s not.  MyGreatFest will teach you how to use your devices and how to get the best out of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touches. The MyGreatFest experience is proudly associated with the thriving iCommunity and will educate users on how to most efficiently use your device whether it be through Jailbreaking or App Usage.
The team at MyGreatFest have been working extremely hard since the creation of this event to make sure that no stone is left unturned and no idea is left out in the cold.  The ‘Behind the Scenes’ work has involved collecting information about possible venues and locations, travel and accommodation for those attending, competitions and give-aways and unique MyGreatFest merchandise, plus much much more.  You can be certain that we are working relentlessly to ensure that we provide the best, feature rich event for the community we hold so dear.
If you are an active member of this community, or even if you are an outside voyeur looking in you will undoubtedly recognise some of the big community names we have on board – ranging from developers, well known technical support gurus and the producers of the highest quality themes.”
Sound interesting? Here’s a video from the MyGreatFest team:

The venue will be at The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane in London. It looks like an awesome place for a geek meet-up.
While general iDevice stuff will be covered at the convention, jailbreaking appears to be a huge focus for MyGreatFest. The MyGreatFest team has a page on their website that explains why each of the team members jailbreak their iPhones, as well as a nice history of jailbreaking and an explanation of what it means to jailbreak.
Tickets have also been made available for purchase. Pricing is as follows: Adult: £27, Child (in case you want saurik to sign your baby’s forehead): £17, Family (1 child & 1 adult) £58, and Group of Adults (4 adults) £98.50.
Check the MyGreatFest website for more info on ticket purchases and travel information.
The saddest thing about MyGreatFest is that, for those of us in the United States, it’s kind of difficult to just jump across the pond for a conference in the U.K.
We here at iDB aren’t sure what our involvement (if any) will be with the conference, but there is a slight possibility that Sebastien might be able to attend.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated about the MyGreatFest convention. It sounds like the perfect convention for the iDB audience. What do you think? If you live in Europe, would you consider attending MyGreatFest? (You could have the opportunity to meet saurik!)

iOS 4.3 Takes One More Step Closer to Reality

If you’ve been looking forward to some of the goodies contained in iOS 4.3 — Apple’s latest firmware for the iPhone and other devices — then no doubt this will be music to your ears.

It appears that iOS 4.3 has finally gone gold, meaning that the firmware has been tested and finalized.
This indicates that we could see iOS 4.3 released to the public in the very near future — next week, even…
What else does iOS 4.3 mean for iPhone users? For starters it brings mobile hotspot capabilities, something Verizon users are already enjoying with their updated 4.2.6 firmware.
Secondly, it brings improved AirPlay support for 3rd party apps. To me, the AirPlay support is the biggie in this release, because even though the jailbreak community has been able to circumvent some of these restrictions, it still isn’t as good as what Apple’s latest firmware brings to the table.
Just remember; do not jump the gun and update if you’re relying on a jailbreak or an unlock. You will need to wait until further instructions come out before updating you device, or else you will lose both your jailbreak and unlock if applicable.
Considering that Apple has an iPad 2 media event scheduled for next Wednesday, there’s no better time to reveal iOS 4.3 to the public, possibly releasing it the same day.
Are you excited about iOS 4.3?

Is FaceTime HD on Its Way to the iPhone?

If you’ve been keeping your ear to the street, you’ve probably heard about all the ramblings concerning Apple’s new MacBook Pro refresh.

That refresh is due tomorrow, so I wasn’t surprised to see some of the official box shots leak out.
Contained on the box of Apple’s latest mobile swag is a new “FaceTime HD” option; presumable 720p video via the MacBook’s built in webcam.
Considering that the iPhone 4, and to a lesser extent, the iPhone 3GS, are technically capable of handling HD video, does this mean that we should expect FaceTime HD on our iPhones?

For 3GS users, you can absolutely forget about it. Even iPhone 4 users shouldn’t get too excited about the possibility for HD mobile video chat.
The iPhone 3GS only has 802.11g capabilities, and while it may be technically capable of snapping HD video, it can’t do it out of the box, and it’s obvious that Apple didn’t have that in mind (no front facing camera and all).
The iPhone 4 is a different story altogether, but I still think it’s a little far fetched. It has 802.11n capabilities, it has the front facing camera, so what’s to stop it from being added?
Question: Have you seen how FaceTime looks, even over a good Wi-Fi connection? A lot of times its pretty terrible.
That would have to be some type of incredible firmware upgrade to enable HD resolution over FaceTime at this stage in the game. If they could just get VGA down pat, I’d be satisfied.
If not the iPhone 4, then when will we see HD video chat on the iPhone? Answer: The iPhone 5. I’m predicting that this will be one of the major selling points of the iPhone 5.
While FaceTime is a nice gimmick for the iPhone 4, it’s unreliable and unrefined. The iPhone 4 was more of a test lab for mobile video chat than anything.
With the iPhone 5, I think we will see greater emphases put on FaceTime, with the HD version making its debut. Just think, you’ll be able to talk to your friends in glorious 720p, and hey, it might work as advertised this time around.
Lastly, let’s not forget the fact that FaceTime only works over Wi-Fi thus far out of the box. With 4G network speeds — something we will likely see with the advent of the iPhone 5 — out of the box video chat can truly be mobile as it should be.
When do you think we’ll see FaceTime HD?

Apple iPad Event to Take Place on March 2nd

Apple will be holding a press event next week at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Fransisco. The event is supposed to be focused on the iPad 2.

There have been reports that Apple’s iPad announcement would be delayed, but multiple sources (including Apple) have recently confirmed that Apple will in fact hold an event next Wednesday.
Not much information has been leaked about the approaching Apple event besides specs for the next version of the iPad. Apple might update iOS as well, but there is no hard evidence to support that claim.
However, iPad speculation abounds. Whatever happens, this upcoming Apple event is sure to be significant.
Kara Swisher, from AllThingsD, got the exclusive on when Apple will hold their upcoming iPad-centric event,
“Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad, according to multiple sources.”
The New York Times and Reuters have confirmed the upcoming date,
NY Times:
“Now people with knowledge of the matter say that Apple will host an event on Wednesday, March 2 to showcase its new iPad. The people agreed to speak on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss Apple’s product plans.”
Reuters:
“Apple will host an event on March 2, where the company is expected to take the wraps off the newest iPad model, an individual with knowledge of the situation said. Apple declined to comment.”
According to The Loop, Apple just sent out the invitations for an event next Wednesday. So, this next Apple event has been officially confirmed.
9to5 Mac reports that the iPad 2 will ship towards the end of March, following the March 2nd announcement.
The iPad 2 will probably have a front-facing camera for video chat through FaceTime, a lighter and slimmer build, and a faster processor. Apple will probably also have a surprise in the device’s design that we haven’t been expecting.
All signs point to there not being any iPhone-related announcements at this Apple event. iOS may be updated, but it is unclear if 4.3 will be introduced. If you’d like to read up on the iPhone 5, check out our iPhone 5 rumor roundup. MacStories also has a pretty extensive timeline of iPad 2 rumors that’s worth checking out.
What do you expect out of an Apple event next week? Since Steve Jobs is on a leave of absence from Apple, there probably wont be the legendary “One More Thing…” at the end of the event.

Facebook Messenger for iPhone Allows You to Chat And Make Free Audio Calls Through VoIP 4 Free Here!

A new app called Facebook Messenger has been receiving a lot of attention in the press lately.
It is the premiere app from the CrispApp developers.
I was a tad skeptical of Facebook Messenger when I first started reading about the app. There are a great deal of Facebook-related apps in the App Store, and I was curious about what made Facebook Messenger stand out.
Facebook Messenger is a clean and well-designed chat application for Facebook, but that’s not all. The app also allows you to make free audio calls to your Facebook friends straight from your iPhone.

Facebook Messenger’s official description,
“Facebook Messenger is the best way to stay in touch with all your Facebook friends and the ultimate Voice Chat app that allows you to call your friends for free. Built specifically to improve your Facebook chat experience, Facebook Messenger connects millions of Facebook friends through VoIP so they can talk to one another. Delivering what is lacking with today’s Facebook chat functionality, Facebook Messenger is THE must-have app for Facebook users around the world.
Additional cool features allow users to easily send pictures, browse message history, view a friend’s wall, use emoticons, receive instant replies with Apple Push Notifications, and setup sound notifications and multi-tasking support – all right from within the app. Facebook Messenger is a great way to get connected and stay in touch!”
Unlike other Facebook-related apps, Facebook Messenger boasts a very clean interface with a nice set of features. The chat functionality isn’t anything special compared to other similar apps. You can view your Facebook chat lists and carry on multiple chats at once.
There are some added features in chat that stand out. The ability to send pictures, view chat history, utilize the iPhone’s push notifications for new messages, and use the in-app browser makes mobile chat through Facebook a comfortable experience.

Where Facebook Messenger really stands out is in its VoIP calling feature. That’s right, you can call any of your Facebook friends for free from your iPhone! (Watch out, Skype.)
The app uses Voice over IP to allow free, internet-based audio calls between the app and any other Facebook user. If the person you decide to call is using the Facebook Messenger app, the call will take place right within the app.
But in most cases, you’ll be calling a Facebook friend that’s at a computer or online through another means besides the Facebook Messenger app. If that’s the case- don’t sweat it. Facebook Messenger will paste a link in your friend’s chat window that will take them to a webpage that runs your call in their browser.
Here’s a video demonstrating Facebook Messenger in action:

You’ve got to admit, that’s pretty dang cool. If you’re a Facebook junkie, Facebook Messenger is the best way to chat and call your friends through your Facebook account. No additional accounts with CrispApp need to be created; the magic happens with one login to Facebook.
If you can’t stay away from Facebook for more than ten minutes, why not help feed the problem with this great app.
Facebook Messenger is available for Free Here -> http://www.filedude.com/download
What do you think about Facebook Messenger? If you download it and call someone, let us know how the experience went. When we tried the app, the call quality was excellent and it worked great.

Muzik[App] for iPhone and iPod Touch 4 Free!

Awhile back, we showed you a jailbreak theme called “OS7″ that replicated Windows Phone 7′s interface on the iPhone.
Some of you installed the theme and played around with it. The theme’s attention to detail and resemblance to Windows Phone 7 was striking.
An app called Muzik, by Dr. Wilson Gaming, allows you to play your iPod music in the style of Windows Phone 7 and the Zune. Muzik recently received some major updates to make it a more formidable clone of the Zune experience.
If, for some reason, you want the ability to replicate the Zune interface on your iPhone, Muzik is about as good as it gets.

Just like the OS7 jailbreak theme, Muzik bears an eerily identical resemblance to the Windows Phone 7 interface. The app allows you to listen to your iPod’s library and playback videos through iTunes file sharing like Apple’s native iPod app.
You can skin your Windows Phone 7ish player with different themes. According to the developer, there seems to be a few issues with one of themes. You may need to do some manual tweaking. (For more information, check out the developer’s forum.)
I downloaded Muzik to try it out, and I was shocked at how detailed the app strives to be in its Microsoft homage. Everything down to the little transition animations make you feel like you’re really using the Zune player.
The best part about Muzik is that it’s just an app from the App Store. That means that you can mess around, and maybe even enjoy using the interface. But at the end of the day, iOS is just one home screen button tap away.
Muzik is available for Free Here -> http://www.filedude.com/download
Let us know what you think of Muzik. Did it make you wish the native iPod app was designed differently, or did it reaffirm your love for the brilliance of iOS?

ChatPic cracked and Free at Cydia!

Here is an app that shouldn’t even exist in the first place as Apple should have implemented it in iOS. ChatPic is a new jailbreak app that will show address book photos next to text messages in the SMS app.

For ChatPic to work, you obviously need to add a photo to your contacts, then whenever they text you, you will see their face next to the chat bubble…
ChatPic only works with the stock SMS app. It will not work with apps such as BiteSMS or iRealSMS. But really, if you have BiteSMS, you don’t really need this as you already have your contact’s picture showing up whenever you receive a new text message from him/her.
